| Pros | Works over time. olny medication that completely cleared my skin. not hard to swallow. No stomach issues. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Takes time to work. (like a month ) |
| Bottom line | Okay so this is my second time on this medication. the first time i took the 100mg once a day know my new derm is making me take 75mg twice a day.I just stared last night so i am hoping it works as good the second time. The first time i took it i swear it was AMAZING. the olny reason my acne came back was beacuse i stoped all meds cause my skin was 100% clear. |

| Pros | Working very well, Started seeing very good improvements after one month, No side effects |
|---|---|
| Cons | Nothing |
| Bottom line | coming up the 8th week (using differen at night to) 80-90% of my acne has cleared up, only alot of scarring left over which is clearing to... Being about 2 weeks since a noticeble breakout (which means it must be working i used to break out every few days) Only the odd new head here and there, still a little bit of cystic acne under the jawline |

| Pros | worked very quickly, no side effects |
|---|---|
| Cons | nothing |
| Bottom line | i got this two weeks ago from my dermatologist. I have really bad cystic acne on my cheeks and this has so far helped to start clearing it up. It isn't painful anymore and it is going down. I'm also using tretinoid as well. I would recommend drinking a full glass of water when you take this and while you are eating or else it can cause you painful stomach problems. So far, this has solved most of my problems and the acne on my chest has dissapeared completely. |

| Pros | None, I did not react to this antibiotic well. See "Bottom Line" for details. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Within the 3rd day my skin was so dry it felt like sandpaper and was so damn itchy it seemed like no amount of lotion (Neutrogena oil free moisturizer) helped. My skin was peeling like crazy, my stomach hurt and made such loud noises at night I couldn’t sleep. Made the mistake of taking it on an empty stomach the 1st day, don’t do this or else you’ll be severely nauseous, eat a couple of crackers, pop the pill and then eat a few more crackers and make sure to wash it down with plenty of wa |
| Bottom line | Not everyone reacts the same to doxy, mino or tetracycline. I was put on doxy for moderate acne that was caused after I stopped taking an antidepressant called effexor that I had been on for 10 years. I had taken tetracycline before and my body reacted well to it however my primary doctor felt I should give doxycycline a try. Since it’s part of the tetra family I thought I would react fine to it. . .boy was I wrong. I finally realized my symptoms were an allergic reaction and the drug was not responding well with me. I think it’s a bunch of bulls*** when people say, stick it through when you’re having bad symptoms from an antibiotic. Stop taking it if you react badly, its common sense but some people are so desperate when it comes to acne that they feel like it’s their last resort. Bottom line, was on it for 5 days stopped b/c I was obviously allergic to it and I was put on Tetracycline instead. |

| Pros | It started to somewhat clear up my acne. (but I'm thinking that was placebo) |
|---|---|
| Cons | It never totally cleared up my acne, just slightly improved it for a month or two. Then I was back to normal. And then about 4 months after starting, I started to get massive breakouts on my chest and back. |
| Bottom line | I wish my dermatologist had never prescribed this. I don't know if it was the cause of my body acne (it could just be the crazy hormones as I get into the worst years of being a teenager), but it definitely didn't help anything. Now I'm trying a bunch of topicals to clear it up and my dermatologist and parents are trying to put my Accutane which is frustrating. This medication was a waste of time and money. |

| Pros | Great stuff, and I've tried just about everything short of Accutane, which I just can't bring myself to try. So far it has significantly cleared my skin, and it's only been a week. My skin looks to be more even as well, which is very nice. |

| Cons | Don't drink alcohol when you take Doxy. I took a sip of wine and it made me vomit. |
| Bottom line | After having moderate acne for 10 years, Doxy is a godsend. I don't have medical insurance, so paying $10 for a month's worth of pills made me VERY happy. |

|---|---|
| Cons | Didn't work and made me very sensitive to sunlight, got sunburnt heaps easier. |
| Bottom line | Not worth it. Instead I am using vitamins at the moment. Vitamin B Complex and Zinc. And buying extra Vitamin B5 pills (theres not enough of B5 in the complex). And I'm waiting on my cleanser, moisturiser and mask from SkinB5. |

| Pros | Starting to clear up skin |
|---|---|
| Cons | I'm on the 150mg Slow release pill and OMG it's like a horse pill!! Can they make it any bigger??? ;) Anyways besides it being really hard to swallow, and upsetting my stomach a little bit nothing else so far. |
| Bottom line | I started to take this on Monday so 3 days now. Before I started to take it, I had the worst breakout ever! I mean at least 20 big pimples on my face and a TON on my arms shoulders back and chest. I look like a walking pimple! I had one on my arm that was double stacked! Freaking gross!! Anyways now that I have totally grossed everyone out my point is the Doxycycline seems to be making the breakout go away. I have those cystic acne ones that are a bugger to get rid of. They take WEEKS to go down and they seem to be getting smaller and less painful! My main goal is to get accutane but if this works heck I swallow a horse pill every morning!! I already took the Monocyclin and it made me really sick so I stopped taking it after 2 weeks. I'm totally allergic to Penicillin, so hopefully this works for me! Also I got these as a sample from my Derm so I don't know what my co-pay is going to be. My last one for the monocyclin was 20.00 |
