I had spot dermabrasion on my forehead by Dr. Yarborough for $200. I would say it helped the deep scar there somewhat; however I did break out in other areas due to the constant application of Vaseline. I ended up with additional scarring. I would recommend full face rather than spot dermabrasion.

I had dermabrasion a long time ago, done by a highly reputable plastic surgeon. I was horrified to discover after the treatment that my face was covered in a mask of blackened dried blood. It took days for my face to look close-to-normal. Then I had to find some way of reducing the extreme redness that made me look quite strange (I was a male bartender at the time). I ended up having to put on Clinique foundation just to do my job. The improvements were largely due to the swelling the treatment caused on my face. After 6 months, I couldn't really see a big improvement. Considering it was a huge ordeal and the results were questionable, I would NOT recommend a full dermabrasion. If your problems, like mine, are due to areas of collapsed collagen, dermabrasion is not the way to go. Remember, doctors will do any procedure to make some money.
Note: Microdermabrasion isn't remotely the same as a full dermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is a pleasant buy not terribly effective treatment for general skin tone. I've had microdermabrasion.

I had several ice pick scars just under my cheek bones. My surgeon, did excisions on them individually - insicion with a single stitch in each scar. I had 2 rounds of excisions then full face dermabrasion. My cost for all was $ 2500; this was in August of this year. There is some improvement but I am not totally satisfied. My make up doesn't pool in the scars anymore, my face feels much smoother but I still have slight shadows of indentations and am considering "fillers" to raise the few scars I am unhappy with. If you are looking for moderate improvement you won't be disappointed. By the way, do not confuse the MICROdermabrasion with dermabrasion. Dermabrasions requires that you be sedated in ambulatory surgery, usually with "Twilight sleep" and a rotary sander is used to take off the top layer off your face. You crust over for about a week and you look like a creature from "Night of the Living Dead". The 2 procedures are a world different!

I agree with Animegirle,Al Dr. John Yarborough is the master. I would not allow anyone but him to do my full face dermabrasion

Dermabrasion may improve very shallow scars but ONLY in expert hands. Spot treatments may result in treated area being lower than surrounding skin. Useful to flatten out punch elevation of deep scars. Not recommended as a stand alone treatment.

As many of you know I have had 4 full face dermabrasions and one spot treatment. The first one was in 1990, followed by 1991, 1992, 1993 and the spot dermabrasion in 1995. Hands down these were the best treatments that I have EVER had for acne scarring. I am scheduled for one final dermabrasion at the hands of the master, Dr. John Yarborough in New Orleans on 9/21. I highly recommend this procedure, but ONLY at the hands of a VERY SKILLED professional.
