I had SPOT DERMABRASION done on my ice pick scars combined with CO2 LASER RESURFACING done to my entire face. I was super excited when I got my bandages off (4 days after the procedure). My face appeared to be completely smooth. Once the swelling went down, however, I noticed little, if any, difference. The process wasn't that bad. I looked crapy for a while, but the pain was minimal. I just didn't leave my house for 2 weeks. Considering the down time, and the minimal results, I don't recommend it. PS: it has been about 5 weeks and I'm still a little bit red (but it can be covered easily with makeup).
If you have DISCOLORATION scars, the results will be better. I did notice about a 75% improvement on the few discoloration scars I had.
BUT... if you have ICE-PICK scarring, it's not so great. Even on my most shallow ice pick scars, I saw little to no difference (MAYBE 5-10%). On my moderate ice pick scars, I see absolutely no difference.

Three months ago I had a full-face dermabrasion. I spent $6,000 and it did nothing for me. If I saw a smoother surface, or more shallow pocks, it would have been worth the pain, blood, sleepless nights, and looking like a napalm victim for a month. I even think the texture of my skin has worsened. I'm so disgusted, I'm hoping someone will come up with a facial skin transplant treatment! So now I'm back to spending big bucks at the drug store trying to find something that will make a difference. It's so confusing... collagen products, alpha hydroxy, retinoids, blah blah. In the meantime, I'm going to be the female Phantom of the Opera and hide my face from people, only going out at nighttime.

Dermabrasion is the best procedure that one can make when considering reducing the appearance of icepick, rolling and boxcar scars. There are many different types of procedures out there that are supposedly better and replaces the "old school" dermabrasion techniques. But trust me, i've been through everything,u name it. Micro-derm does nothing to improve scarring, so save your money. Laser techniques do work in reducing the appearance of scars, but when healed completely will leave large pores, while dermabrasion when healed completely will have very little signs of enlargened pores. Most people chose laser, believing in false facts promised by their physicians, take the more dramatic route and bite the pain that comes with dermabrasion (zombie-like)appearance, no pain no gain. It saddens me deeply that many doctors out there will say or promise anything to make money, the famous words sprouting out of their lips, "patience, repeat visits are the key." The only thing repeat visits do is fatten your doctors wallets. Shame on the cosmetic industry for praying on us desperate people hoping to improve our lives. In the hands of a well trained doctor, you will see great improvements with dermabrasion, depending on the depth of the scar, expect at least multiple visits for the best results, around 3-5 times. FOUGHT 12 YEARS WITH THIS TRUST ME.
