I had SPOT DERMABRASION done on my ice pick scars combined with CO2 LASER RESURFACING done to my entire face. I was super excited when I got my bandages off (4 days after the procedure). My face appeared to be completely smooth. Once the swelling went down, however, I noticed little, if any, difference. The process wasn't that bad. I looked crapy for a while, but the pain was minimal. I just didn't leave my house for 2 weeks. Considering the down time, and the minimal results, I don't recommend it. PS: it has been about 5 weeks and I'm still a little bit red (but it can be covered easily with makeup).

If you have DISCOLORATION scars, the results will be better. I did notice about a 75% improvement on the few discoloration scars I had.

BUT... if you have ICE-PICK scarring, it's not so great. Even on my most shallow ice pick scars, I saw little to no difference (MAYBE 5-10%). On my moderate ice pick scars, I see absolutely no difference.

Nicole from Long Island NY, this is Josh from LA CA. I just wanted to respond to your concerns. Being a professional dermabrasionist for years now, I would like to tell you and anyone reading this, that the BIGGEST reason why patients dont see results is because of the dermabrasionist, simple as that. He or she is unwilling to perform the procedure the right way, which is to "hit it hard", as I like to refer to it. Why? because the he or she does not want to risk anything due to liabilities. Just because they are licensed doesn't mean they are qualified. Barely sanding the surface will not produce results time and time again. Keep this in mind everybody, in order to see 90% results, one must not quit. Just because you had the procedure done once and did not see any results doesn'tmean that dermabrasion does not work, like I said it didn't work because you went to see the wrong person. You have to abrade the area to the correct depth in order to see results, not just a brush through like many practitioners do. Again, the way they see it, the more times you come back the more money they make. And the less deep the prcedure the lesser the chance of additional problems. It's like making lots of money without having a guilty conscience. I will have a website set up soon, because it just infuriates me so much, the amount of people being preyed upon by the plastic surgeon and the cosmetic industry. I will keep you guys updated.

Hi Everyone, I had dermabrasion done 3 months ago on both cheeks for acne scarring. I was very patient during my healing period as the doctor told me it will take several weeks before I start seeing results. End result - there was absolutely no change in my skin, and they actually appear much more visible now and I have hyperpigmention. On my last visit to the plastic surgeon's office he even offered to do it again at no charge due to the poor results....I don't know what to do.

I had Dermabrasion done by Dr. George Farber. It has done nothing for my ice pick scarring. Matter of fact. I now have hyper pigmentation. My cheeks are much darker than the rest of my face. I look like I have a 5 o clock shadow. What a waste of money !!! A complete let down !!!

He showed me pictures of some cases. He even raved about the success rate. I don't know where he found the before and after photos. My end result was nothing close to the photos.....

I had a medium depth dermabrasion for large pores that happened with age. Im 48. It did help significantly, but it's not as smoothe as a baby's behind as they often say. I love Obagi skin program for smoothing skin.

Three months ago I had a full-face dermabrasion. I spent $6,000 and it did nothing for me. If I saw a smoother surface, or more shallow pocks, it would have been worth the pain, blood, sleepless nights, and looking like a napalm victim for a month. I even think the texture of my skin has worsened. I'm so disgusted, I'm hoping someone will come up with a facial skin transplant treatment! So now I'm back to spending big bucks at the drug store trying to find something that will make a difference. It's so confusing... collagen products, alpha hydroxy, retinoids, blah blah. In the meantime, I'm going to be the female Phantom of the Opera and hide my face from people, only going out at nighttime.

Dermabrasion is the best procedure that one can make when considering reducing the appearance of icepick, rolling and boxcar scars. There are many different types of procedures out there that are supposedly better and replaces the "old school" dermabrasion techniques. But trust me, i've been through everything,u name it. Micro-derm does nothing to improve scarring, so save your money. Laser techniques do work in reducing the appearance of scars, but when healed completely will leave large pores, while dermabrasion when healed completely will have very little signs of enlargened pores. Most people chose laser, believing in false facts promised by their physicians, take the more dramatic route and bite the pain that comes with dermabrasion (zombie-like)appearance, no pain no gain. It saddens me deeply that many doctors out there will say or promise anything to make money, the famous words sprouting out of their lips, "patience, repeat visits are the key." The only thing repeat visits do is fatten your doctors wallets. Shame on the cosmetic industry for praying on us desperate people hoping to improve our lives. In the hands of a well trained doctor, you will see great improvements with dermabrasion, depending on the depth of the scar, expect at least multiple visits for the best results, around 3-5 times. FOUGHT 12 YEARS WITH THIS TRUST ME.

I had dermabrasion done and it worked, but I looked aweful for about a month. It really hurt too. They numbed me up, but it still hurt like hell, and the noise the dermabrader makes is aweful. The worst part was when I looked up at the nurse and little chunks of my skin were sprayed all over her scrubs. I almost fainted. You can't wear makeup for almost a month until your skin totally heals. During that month time you can't let the area that got the dermabrasion dry out or it'll scar, so you have to keep polysporin or neosporin on it all the time. I always felt so goopy and I could only sleep on my back so that the pillows didn't wipe off the neosporin. BUT . . . . . it did help my ice-pick scars become shallower.

My Dermabrasion was free on the NHS. Very shocked at the oozing wound all over my face afterwards. I was not expecting to have to hide in the house for weeks until the scabs dried up and fell off. I would have it done again to clear my face completely if I ever felt it necessary.
