Pros Significant fading of acne brown spots. Decrease in pore size. Clearer skin
Cons Burns when applied. Peeling for 2 - 3 days after application.
Bottom line I am a 50 year old African American woman who has suffered. 8 years ago took Accutane so I don't currently have acne but acne scars remained. The first thing I noticed 4 days after the first peel was that I did not need to wear as much foundation makeup - in fact there are days when I go with out any foundation. The acne scars have faded by 50%, my skin is clearer and it feels very smooth. It was pretty costly (6 treatments for $1080) but this is the best investment I have made on myself.

Pros Skin can improve if chemical peel reacts correctly to skin. First experience was good...Second was not.
Cons Dark pigmentation.
Bottom line I had a chemical peel (TCA 30%) about two years ago. The results were good/fair. There was about 4-5 days of downtime (e.g., redness, excessive peeling...) which was difficult to deal with (I hate staying indoors!!). My acne did clear up and my skin appeared tighter and healthier. I would like to emphasize the importance of wearing sunscreen daily especially after a chemical which i did comply with after my treatment. After a couple of months my skin appeared to return to the way it looked prior to treatment. Recently, I wanted to touch up some fine lines and wrinkles. So I ordered the product (TCA 30%) and got started when i had some time off from work. For some reason this time, may skin changed color in some of the areas i treated. I am lucky i did not do a full face peel. It is not a severe discoloration but it is still apparent to me (pink/red color). Makeup does a bad job of concealing it. It has been two months and I still notice the discoloration. This is disappointing. If i had to do it over again I would definitely go with a lower concentration of tca.

Pros Reduces hyperpigmentation, helps unclog pores, more even skin tone.
Cons Doesn't help that much with deep acne scars.
Bottom line I started using low strengths of Salicylic and Glycolic Acid because your skin needs to get used to it first. You don't want to damage your skin so always start with low strengths first. I currently use 40% Glycolic and 30% Salicylic Acid. I use them once every other month just to keep my skin clear. What did work for my acne is the combination of regular exfoliation and Spironolactone.

Pros I think it does make a difference. It is cheaper and less painful than other treatments and requires no medications or anesthesia.
Cons I think it takes a while to notice a difference. You need to be careful for a few day after treatment, and it only works on mild scarring.
Bottom line I think if you only have minimal scarring you should try it. My skin had very little pit marks and was mostly discolored. It seemed to improve my skin but I am also very fair skinned so depigmentation works differently for me than for other people.

Pros I had moderate acne which was getting worse every single day. I had 6 70% glycolic peels done over a two month period and my acne went away completely. I haven't had a single pimple since, not even hormonal pimples.
Cons I did get scarring here and there due to my skin peeling, but it is slowly going away.
Bottom line My acne is now completely gone, and I'm currently using the Jan Marini line and Jane Iredale mineral make up which were both introduced to me by skin specialist. I'm asian, so I was worried about doing these peels especially at 70% but there weren't any complications. For those who are planning to do a peel. make sure you're specialist is either a trained nurse or doctor who specialises in acne. Also, if your acne is infected (you'll know when pus comes out of your pimple when you pop it), you should have laser treatment done on top of your extraction and peel.

Cons SEVER ACNE BREAKE OUT HYPERPIGMENT DARK UGLY SPOT ALL OVER.
Bottom line I had a Laser Genesis Treatment in Phila. The "sales person" thats bascially what they are they dont care. she told me its a wonderful treatment my skin will glow i will look younger so i had 1 treatment 2 days later i was breaking out like a mad women i never had acne before 3 months later my face is cover with large and tiny underground pimples. i have dark ugly spot all over. i been using a salicylic acid peel its my 4th peel but my skin has not improve im so depress i look like sh*t. if anyone tried any product and it work please recommend.

Pros Fades away the red spots left by acne. I didnt have any acne,just had a mild arrhythmia. And i've gone through 3 peels uptil now. Doc recommended 6 peels[one peel/20 days]..After three peels i can say that my skin has improved by 50-60%. GO FOR IT.
Cons Burns a bit...BUT ITS WORTH....Skin becomes photo sensitive...Always have to wear a sunblock before going out. You'll have a flaky skin for some days after a peel.
Bottom line My surgeon did microdermabrasion first and then a 60% glycolic peel........Go for a glycolic 75%/TCA 35%....Dont go above that....This is a safe limit...

Pros Got rid of Pregnancy Mask
Cons Down time, severe acne, redness, swelling, did I mention acne
Bottom line Went in for a light TCA peel in hopes of reducing pore size and removing dark spots/preg. mask. I was told down time would be about 5 to 7 days. About day 5 my entire face broke out in acne(had never had acne) there were at least 200 spots on my face. Unsure of what was happening, called dr. office. They said I must be allergic to the antibiotic ointment and discontinue use. Another week passes and it is not anybetter, go to my dermatologist. Prescribed medication to dry up the spots. It is about 1 month later and I'm still not 100%. I don't think my skin will ever be the same. It is very red, sensitive, and still breaking out.

Pros The only thing that manages my acne prone skin- I have extractions and a B-hydroxy peel every month. I also use Mandelic acid 15% morning and night. My skin is smooth and flawless where it used to be covered in tiny pimples.
Cons My face is a bit tender after the peel- for me my face is sensitive 1-5 days depending on how severe the peel is (whether you have it done at a spa or a dermatologist).
Bottom line For me it works.

Pros Clears up acne and reduces fine lines
Cons Results do not last
Bottom line I had a Chemical peel (TCA/30%) last year. After four to five days of downtime, my skin did look younger and healthier. Acne, acne scars, and fine lines were reduced. However, my results were temporary. I believe this is because skin is swollen and plump after a chemical peel which visible reduces some skin imperfections. After some time, my skin returned to its original state. Would recommend this treatment if you can deal with the down time and want to temporary improve your skin for an upcoming event (party, event, etc.)
