FYI, I am an esthetician that does the superficial peels. They do help acne and can help some scarring. Most reccommend that if you are darker skinned that you use hydroquinone for a few weeks before the peel to be sure there is no risk of skin discoloration. I do not recommend doing these at home yourself, you have no idea what to look for and how to use them or understand how they work. Make sure the person doing them knows what they are talking about, really ask questions. You will be able to tell if they know what they are doing. If you find the right person, usually an esthetician is cheaper then the dr. office. Much cheaper at times. I have seen great great results with these for acne, sun damage and scarring, myself included. I think its one of the safest.

I just started using a 30% glycolic peel along with super cop and emu oil. (I purchased these products from a webssite.) I've only done 1 peel so far and it was slightly uncomfortable. I now have a couple of cold sores by my mouth which I'm not sure wether this is normal or not. I also had a small breakout but that doesn't bother me. I'm hoping to improve my acne scars which are really troublesome to me. My skin on my nose looks wrinkled which I think is going to flake and peel in couple of days. Since the first peel and in conjuction with the emu oil and super cop I've noticed that it's working well on two of my scars which are poc type scars, and to me any improvement in my scars is worth a little pain or cold sores. The cost for these products was $130.

I used the Skin Culture chemical peels in the 1980's and had good results (I am a African American Female with a medium skin tone). I found this web looking for their website, wondering if they were still in business after all these years. Based on others' posts, it appears they are. There werent as many choices for skin treatments, back then, especially in reach of the average Jo. Unfortunately I still break out (nothing like in my teens, though) and have to address brown spots left after an acne flare up. I used their highest strength peel. I called the company to inquire as to safety for use on my skin type/tone and they assured me it was okay. It burned like H*** and sometimes the peeling was noticed by others (could not afford to take time off from work). It improved my brown spots and did not leave any discolorations. It did nothing for acne pits/scars, which I did not expect it would. Those require other types of treatments. Everything does not work or work well for everyone. So ask questions and do research, talk to people and use common sense before using these products out there. I go to a plastic surgeon who treats ethnic skin types and he treated my friend who has is dark skinned African American. He recommends Obagi and I am looking at using their products in the fall (less intense sun) after he compltes my laser hair removal treatments (whole 'nuther subject - ethnic tones need to beware of the laser ).

Listen, with all the different types of acne scar reduction procedures out there, it's no wonder there are so many confused people. I would like to shine some light on this, i personally have had laser resurfacing done 3 times, dermabrasion done at least 4 times, chemical peels more than 6, and the end result? Well, wheter you guys believe me or not, after all those procedures, my scars are still very visible. I would say 25% improvement overall. Now, this is not to discourage anyone, We all respond differently to different treatments, depending on many factors. Severity, age, and so forth. But unfortunately, we tend to believe in false hopes. Why? Because living with acne scars is so hard, so what do we do? We look for solutions to a problem that has yet been solved. Until there is new development in skin renewal procedures, like stem cell research, for example, this battle will be forever. Now, ask yourself, is it worth all the time, money, and anguish just to see minor improvements?? Well that is the question everyone here has to ask themselves? Is it worth it? You might here a couple of success stories here and there, but keep in mind, those stories are very deceiving, how do you know their severity is the same as yours? You cannot assume that if one thing works for a person then it must be true. Hell, many people think they have scars, but it's just a blemish or something else. These people are the ones with success stories, while people like i, the ones with real scars are the ones with the truth. Who will you believe?

DO NOT use the TCA.It contains a chemical called triclosan, this particular chemical was use in a chemical bomb on china, triclosan is an antibacterial agent not harmful in its self though the trouble comes from heat. Around 80 percentent of the chinise population suffered with adult acne as a direct result of this chemical compound mixing with warm air and changing its cemical struture to dioxins.i used it and had breakouts of all kinds including millia <whiteheads> particually difficult to get rid of. i would however use sallactic acid again in conjunction with a suitable acne treatment. i feel very depressed that the scarring had diminished using sallactic only to return after a GIANT breakout from the TCA

I have to say if you are African American or dark-skinned with pigmentation problems, Obagi works very well. I have been using Obagi for 2 months and my skin tone is much more even. I am going in for a Obagi Blue Peel tomorrow and I am very anxious to see what happens.

My chemical peel worked wonders for me. I a bronze skin tone and after breakouts had left over brown marks. After doing a few lactic acid peels many went away. Now I only have 2 dark spots left and my skin has never looked more even tones!

Me had acne scarring. Me took minocycline, which make skin more sensitive to skin, and then me went skiing and got severely sunburnt. It blistered, and when me peel away dead skin, scarring be much better. Me recommend take minocycline/sulfa/other medicine that make you skin sun-sensitive, and go ski when sunny, and get as burned as possible, and then you skin will blister and you will peel away dead outer layer of skin and you scarring will be better. You may have to get sun-burnt multiple time to work.

22/white/female. I just got my second chemical peel. I thought the first one worked pretty well, although my dermatologist was surpised that I got so much better after just one, and she thinks I won't have to have another one after this one. Right now my face is peeling around my chin, blotchy in some places, and rough and discolored on my cheeks where it will be peeling off tomorrow and the next day. It's a little itchy, but sometimes my topical stuff seems to itch worse (tazorac gel). It does burn when it's being applied, but I just try to think about how it's really burning off my scars and zits. Also, you do get white patches for the first hour or so, at least I did, and you need to moisturize and use sunscreen, obviously. There were a couple places on my face where the improvement of the first one was realy noticeable. I used to have these scars on my chin which were practically purple they were so deep, but right before my second chemical peel they were pink and almost blended into the rest of my skin.

I have been doing microderm and glycolic peels for a few months now, I purchased a package deal which cost about 500 dollars for 5 treatments of both. I have to say at first I thought it was a total waste of money because my skin looked awful and red blochy like. but I went ahead a contiuned the treatments and after the third treatment my skin is so much better people have asked if I have changed my hair color because my complexion pops. I still have some acne scarring but I am hoping to get my acne under control with the antiboics I am now taking for cystic acne and I do recommend doing 3 or more treatments before giving up on the peels completely
