Alpha Hydroxy Acid

Acne.org AHA+
(I recommend)

  • Size: 6 oz.
  • A month's supply: One tube
  • Monthly price: $16.11

My comments: This is a powerful AHA with ingredients that I hand picked. It also has licochalcone in it which helps calm acne-prone skin. Licochalcone, a chinese licorice root extract, is a very expensive ingredient, but I really like what it does, so I decided to put it in there. I tried to keep the price as low as I could.

  • Monthly price: $13.39

My comments: This is the only other AHA I've tried that works well enough. I'm not crazy about all of the ingredients in the product, but it seems to do the trick. It can be hard to find on store shelves. Most recently I have spotted it at Rite Aid but not at Walgreens.

Only these 2: Normally I'm OK with a variety of products, so long as they contain ingredients that I need. However, with AHA, the above two products are the only two I have used that work. Any others I've tried have not cleared my body acne. I would guess that this may be due to pH issues or other ingredient issues. There may be other good ones out there and I'll keep experimenting and report back if I find one.

sun Alpha hydroxy acid increases sensitivity to the sun and increases the chance of sunburn. Use a sunscreen and limit sun exposure while using alpha hydroxy acid and for a few weeks afterward.
