An explanation on my decision not to continue producing the old moisturizer, as well as tips to get the New Moisturizer to become your new bestie:
“Like teal shoes”
That literally made me LOL.
The new moisturizer is the best out there in the market for anyone. End of story.
Excellent video. Please think of the silent majority…we think it’s the best moisturizer we have ever used!
I’m nearing the end of my first bottle of the new moisturizer (must reorder soon!) I LOVE IT. I’m an older gal & I’ve ditched my organic eye cream, cuz the new moisturizer is gentle enough for there, as well. Thank God for Dan’s products. I’ve developed a fragrance allergy in my old age & very much appreciate the gentleness of this moisturizer. (And yes, the old one stung!) I am so looking forward to the version w/sunscreen someday.
the new moisturizer is the best iv ever used, offcourse it moisturises, ppl who dont think it does are retards.I love it Dan, keep it coming. The Best ever product.
the old one was awful & burned.the new moisturizer takes the sting & redness away!!
Finally, you made a video. We’ve missed your videos!
The product reviews speak for themselves. Give people the opportunity to have a moisturizer option.
I have to use like 6 pumps of the new moisturizer to feel fully moisturized. That works out very very expensive, especially when you add shipment and customs for the UK.
Listen to the majority!
Ryan you are in the MINORITY, the majority of people prefer the superior new moisturizer. Money is secondary when achieving healthy skin.
I love the new moisturizer too. It did take a while to get used to using so much, but in the end it’s by far the best moisturizer available. There is a vocal minority that dislikes it, possibly because they’re not using enough. But most of us approve of the new moisturizer. Please keep it around Dan.
I think the new moisturizer is just fine. I like the fact that the licochalcone is in their for added effect too. I add several drops of the jojoba oil to the moistuizer and it does just fine for me. Honestly Dan’s products are the best out there. I love that he continually tries to make them better for us.
I really love the new one.Excellent job! But I cannot wait until Dan has an SPF one.Any update on when this *might* be released/further progress?
I am so glad you have started making vids again! I really missed them. I think they strengthen the sense of community. Anyhow, thank you for trying so hard for us!
I loveeeeeeeee the new one!!!
It’s much better then the old one, I’m with you Dan on this..
I think Dan feels with both new and old on the market, people may get stuck in a rut with the old one , and not learn to just adapt and adjust quanity with the newer one,
It took me awhile, I just had to accept it was better, it doesnt sting, i’m not red anymore with the new one, I just have to use 3pumps, with the new one and i’m fine, add abit of jojoba oil on a night and i’m not flakey at all,
good luck with this video Dan I hope more people, try and adapt to the new one, It is, as you say, FAR superior,
xx
It is great to see a video. I started the regimen just about a month ago, and it has helped me as it has many people before. I must say that the videos where (and are) a key part to me doing the regimen. It is comforting and simple to watch videos that discuss topics that I don’t want to talk about to others myself…it is a release for me and I’m sure others as well. Please understand the importance of the videos and make more.
Kent you’re so cute! I love the new moisturizer, it’s so gentle and completely eliminates redness. Echoing above, it’s also an amazing eye cream, I’m ordering a 2nd bottle for my acne-free 50-year-old mom with my next kit. Keep up the excellent work! Thank you!
the new moisturizer suck
Please make more videos! Your videos are one of the main reasons I would go on the site everyday. besides ordering regimen products haha. I used to be excited whe you came out with new videos! NEW VIDEOS!!!
i like the new stuff better. the old stuff was too watery for my liking.
the new moisturizer is perfect, it’s the best iv ever tried in the last 10 years.couldnt be more happy with it.
I’m converted, the new one is brill
If this new moisturizer is here to stay, then a new video should be made for it’s application. It does take more and a lot more time to apply. It also takes a lot longer to “dry.” Especially the regimen pages video should be updated so that it is not just edited from the original to show “three” pumps. There are more issues involved with this new moisturizer…and people need to visually see how to apply (time to apply, amount to apply, and time to dry). Considering it is here to stay, the videos should reflect the new moisturizer a bit better. Thanks!
Regardless of which moisturizer you think is better, there is no excuse for not making both available even if the old one can only be available at a much higher price. Disallowing production/sale of the old moisturizer is a stubborn and selfish business decision, done essentially to disallow competition with the new moisturizer and to increase scale/profit.
I agee with freed the two moisturizer should be available
Is silly and stubborn not to sell the two of them it would make
Both parties happy
And I thought Dan always wanted to make his clients happy
You know what Dan I am sad
i wanna be free
Can u just sell some of the old stuff to me dan.
4 punps and still my skin if flakey.
I’ve been using 5 pumps and that seems to be OK. If I “stretch” my face it will show flakes. Perhaps 6 pumps would do it…but 5 already takes forever to soak in and “dry” (about twenty minutes). It makes the regimen last even longer than it already does. It is sometimes hard to schedule into my day. And for the price, I’m not sure if using 10 to 12 pumps a day is worth the price (it is essentially like paying 45 dollars a bottle if you are using 6 pumps). I do love the results of the moisturizer, but there are a couple draw backs with the timing and price. Thanks for letting us comment.
Correction: it is like paying 30 dollars a bottle if you are using 6 pumps instead of 3. It is more like 4 times the price of the old moisturizer if you are using 6 pumps (if the old moisturizer was 15 dollars, then it is like paying 60 dollars for the new).
As for timing…it has been well over a half hour now since I applied 5 pumps and it is still not fully gone. It will take nearly 45 minutes it looks like!
I have been using 4 pumps.
This crap sucks duece nuggets.
I need the old moisturizer. NOW!!!
The new moisturizer is amazing. It did however take my skin a little bit to get used to but I have had the best results with it, people actually have told me that my skin looks so healthy, that’s the first time I’ve ever heard that. so thank you so much, Dan!!!!
I use the new moisturizer at nite and really like it. Thanks, dan for continually bettering your products and making what I honestly believe to be the BEST acne system in the world. I am coming up on one year on the regimen and my skin is like porcelain. THANK YOU DAN!!! I have young children and I feel so grateful that when they approach those lovely acne years, I will be able to share my wisdom I’ve gained from acne.org. Man they are SO lucky to get to skip acne!! I am forever in your debt.
i’ve been on the regiment for a good 6 months now and became acne free after 4…i went from pumps and pumps of the stuff and waited like an hour for the entire regimen and i got tired of how long it took… so i started scaling down the pumps and now i use 1 pump of bp and one of moisturizer and i’ve stayed acne free for almost 3 months now…try moisturizing right after you wash the skin (after letting your skin dry…mmm..maybe like 5 minutes?) and then apply the bp and then remoisturize (after the bp has dried)… this helps me and doesnt cause breakouts at all.. just kind of priming the skin before being attacked by the drying agent…..
I’m really disappointed with the new moisturizer. I’ve been using it for a few months now, and even using a lot of it with jojoba oil doesn’t work nearly as well for me as the old moisturizer. I also wish both could be made available.
the thing i dont like is that i cant use colored pillow cases because the bp will bleach it and i can’t use white because the moisturizer stains them. that’s with only 2 pumps of moisturizer and letting it sit for a while before going to bed. the new one also seems to leave a film on my face and kind of flakes off through the day. anyone else experience this?
Hello Dan! You truly are amazing and I know you want the best for us but I beg that you give us the option. You may want people to give the new moistorizer a try but if we know it’s not for us please allow us to purchase the old one. I don’t see why you cannot just let us have the option. Let us decide what is best for our type of skin especially because of how amazing the old moistroizer was. We’re not asking you to stop production on the new on but please just give us the option to choose what is best for us. Please give me the opportunity to have clear skin again!
The new moisturizer is great. It reminds me very very much of a certain big name expensive moisturizer (one that always worked well, but cost MANY times more than this product).
well, a lot of us still don’t like it. more of the new moisturizer is still insufficient with this new moisturizer. i’m pretty sure 4 or 5 pumps is way more than enough for any person, and unfortunately for me it’s not. there are a lot of comments that point fingers at people like calling people retards for talking about their experiences, even though it’s really just what they found after using the product, and that’s just disappointing.
I just want to ask, wasn’t it only some people who had complaints with the old one, and aren’t there only some complaints with the new one? With much higher ratings for the old moisturizer, I would think that the old one did have a much larger following and only some people had problems, while a larger minority of people have problems with the new moisturizer. the problem with the switch was that most of us had a routine going that was great and didn’t need to be changed, as shown by the rating system, and for a small minority of people there were some side effects that led them to look for another moisturizer. this moisturizer actually doesn’t work for me even when i use more than what ken uses. the change wasn’t necessary for a lot of us, and it’s difficult to find a replacement product while our skin wreaks havoc on us. the frustration stems from the fact that all was well until the switch, and even though this might be a better product to some people, as evident from the ratings system it’s a negative change for most of us. i don’t see it as a switch from a superior to an inferior product or “doing the wrong thing” if the old moisturizer was rereleased. i see it as being faithful to the community that supported acne.org and the people who look to you for advice.
the bottom line is that if the product works for dan, he’s happy.
Does anyone have recommendations for moisturizers similar to Dan’s old formula? I tried Cetaphil but it is not quite the same.
I LOVE the new moisturizer. I usually do about 10 pumps in the morning, 10 more pumps at lunch, and 10 more in the evening. Sometimes when I get flakes I really use a lot and do as much as 20 pumps at a time. I usually go through a whole bottle in a day, but this stuff is SO GREAT!!!!!!!
Does anyone have recommendations for moisturizers similar to Dan’s old formula? I tried Cetaphil but it is not quite the same.
CeraVe feels very much the same as the old formula, and it is way less greasy than Cetaphil.
Dan,
I agree with the anonymous commenter who stated above that “the bottom line is that if the product works for Dan, he’s happy.” It seems like uou is only willing to make and sell us the products that YOU like the best.
Dan, we don’t all have skin like yours! Not everyone’s skin will react to the same products in the same way, no matter how diligently they follow the regimen. As a scientist, how can you not realize that? Your blind spot to this issue is inexcusable.
You will not open your eyes to the plain fact that one regimen cannot guarantee the same results for all people. It is clear that you are simply not willing to cater to the varied skin types of your customers. This is ultimately the reason why, after being a loyal customer for many years, I am no longer going to purchase your products.
Sincerely,
Kelsey L.
Dan you are truly a pioneer when it comes to Acne medications and customer service but my skin has not been the same since I was forced to switch moisturizers. Gone are the compliments and great feeling skin. The part that hurts the most besides the skin problems I have again are the words you used on your bottle, “let me know what you think.” Why would you ask what we think if it doesn’t matter? It’s completely apparent that we want the option of either moisturizer. No one knows the cause of acne, but we as individuals know what works for us. I hope you reconsider Dan, thank you for reading this and taking time.
I don’t think Dan realizes that for many, 4 pumps+ and multiple drops of jojoba oil coupled with his exact regimen performed with the utmost gentleness and precise amounts of BP STILL results in extreme flakiness and an oily look. There’s a reason the ratings are so low for the new moisturizer. The old one worked fine. It hardly even stung that bad anyways. A majority liked the old one and a minority likes the new one. That should tell you something.
Geez you guys, he cannot please each and every last person. With this moisturizer I think he is torn between two problems. I am a big fan of the new moisturizer and I was not a big fan of the old one. The thing is that there will always be people who say one thing about a product and then there will be a group of people who say the exact opposite of the first group. You have to think about what Dan is hearing. He hears both sides over and over. He cannot make knee-jerk reactions and do what each person tells him to do. He has to consume the feedback and process it and make the decision that he feels is best for everyone, best for himself, and best for the company. Obviously he really believes in the new moisturizer as well as most people do too. He apparently does not see enough benefit in producing both at the same time to go ahead with that. I think he wants a unified product brand and having to competing moisturizers one of which he does not believe in would defeat his goal. The new moisturizer is awesome if use correctly so those of you who don’t seem to like it just keep working with it until you get it right.
I believe having both moistruziers available would be a money issue.. more products available more man power etc
I think Dan needs to advertise a tiny bit.. perhaps a banner on the homepage to generate extra income? I don’t think any one would mind.
I may be onto something here. I have been on the regimen for two months now and have cleared up well, but I’ve struggled with dryness and flakes no matter what moisturizer I used (some days worse than others with no real pattern). For the past week I’ve been rinsing my face more fully before and after washing with the cleanser, and I have been pretty much flake free. Before rinsing fully I was trying 5 punps of the new moisturizer and still getting some flaking (I posted about it above how it takes a long time for 5 pumps to “dry” and how expensive 5 pumps can be), but now I can use the recomended 3 pumps with very little to no flaking…no joke. To me it appears that the flakes were from build up of products and not just from BP drying. Note that I follow the regimen precicely in every aspect from timing to amount (and I use all acne.org products).
Dan & those of us suffering should read this.
Apologies.
TL;DR? Skip to 3rd “Phew”, end of 5th “Unfortunately”, & last “CeraVe” paragraphs… still long.
I start out a bit angry… I get nicer and more constructive.
“Use more, just use more.” Are you SERIOUS? You truly believe all of the individuals suffering from severe dryness on the new moisturizer dumbfounded at its utter inefficacy didn’t first try USING MORE, even a *LOT* more – even WAY more than Kent here, MANY times a day? What a ridiculous insult to our intelligence. So glib with “use more”, as if the solution were so obvious and we’re ignorant masses. Get a clue, every individual you’ve read who has complained on this blog about the new moisturizer has USED MORE, everyone who has written in an email tried USING MORE, everyone on the forum has USED MORE, and everyone writing a 1-star review tried USING MORE. “Oh gosh my skin is getting really dry, better not try putting on more MOISTURIZER, we all know how toxic that would be.” ????
Here’s what angry Chris WANTS to say:
The damn stuff does. not. work. Change all of your Regimen instructions, “when in doubt, use more” is no longer valid advice for applying benzoyl peroxide when joined with a moisturizer this ineffective, in fact, it’s disastrous. Licochalcone? No stinging or redness? Try applying a potent drying agent to desert-like skin with an ounce of do-nothing “moisturizer” on top and we can talk about stinging and redness. You gave me a few years of clarity then screwed with your product and took back 6 months, stolen from my life as this condition has stolen so much from so many of us. It feels like a one man show (although I know it’s not) running this place, you’ve been a hero to me and the rest of us but it’s time to make decisions like a big company: selling both products would have been the right move. Gain some perspective, you have customers on a regimen of your sole design, with SINGULAR products to work with it that you specifically tailored, you then ripped out one of those core components. It doesn’t matter whether your team thinks one may be the superior, you’re a company for TREATING ACNE VULGARIS. You don’t FORCE major changes on your customers just because you think it’s “even better”, not when you were the SOLE purveyor of the original, not when it’s people’s SKIN you’re dealing with!!!
——————————–
Phew. Okay, I’ve calmed down. Now let me try and be more constructive, and get to what I’m truly saying to you Dan:
Maybe your new moisturizer works. Maybe. Maybe even really well. Perhaps new regimen users like it, as do perhaps those with light acne. However those of us with moderate to severe acne (your kinsmen!), who stood staunch and proudly behind the clear banner of Daniel Kern, entrenched deep within the fortifications of “The Regimen”… had our skin’s self-moisturization already taking a back-seat, dependent upon your moisturizer. You switched it, initially and unwittingly withholding that nugget of wisdom, “Oh by the way, you need to use a ton more of this, even if it won’t seem like it at first.” Over the course of a month or two our skin became dryer and dryer, with no explanation. “Oh it’s just the wintertime,” says Dan, “invest in a humidifier.” Convenient! Some of us (like myself) even did. Alas, no, it was the moisturizer, and now it was far too late. We had been slathering on tons of moisturizer (eventually even every 2 hours) since the initial symptoms, but no, not from the *absolute* beginning of the switch (at least new users are being informed now), as we weren’t told, and they took a while (month?) to manifest though the damage had been done. Also perhaps because Dan’s motto is “when in doubt, use more” when it comes to BP, we weren’t carefully measuring our usage – preferring the tubes to bottles. A fatal mistake.
Then my face was a wasteland. [Warning, getting graphic.] Left to bounce from BP and itching stinging pain, covered in red and gold splotches of crusty oozing plasma, forced to stay awake all night – to the cold-turkey cessation of BP, covered in pustules wanting to shout, “I thought I was done with this suffering!!”, bringing back the emotional trauma and disconnection of years before, a back and forth which eventually blended into just a massive F.M.L.. All due to either someone’s poor business decision (forcing a switch) with good-hearted intentions, or an unfortunate mistake (neglecting to point out we needed to use much more, way before our skin told us, wherein it was too late) by a perfectly fallible human being.
Unfortunately, I’m stupid, or stupidly altruistic. I was stubborn and sought an alternative way to make the BP work – use a different moisturizer, for instance, or different techniques. Creams, lotions, jojoba, glycerin, under BP, over BP – both, extremely little BP, you name it. I found ways to have 0 stinging (but then later, terrible itching). I wanted to determine a solution for all of us victims of the switchover. Furthermore it takes a minimum of a week to really test something. Hence in total, months. I didn’t want to give in to the idea that I’d have to let my skin break out horribly for the entire time it would take my skin to regain all of its natural moisture after quitting BP cold turkey. I wanted to suffer through testing alternatives so no one else would have to. I wanted to take the punch out of Dan & company’s mistake for all our sakes. I was wrong. There isn’t an alternative. Quit BP cold turkey, for weeks, or as long as it takes for your skin to be as oily as it was before you’d ever heard of acne.org. Had I just done that, I’d probably have saved months. This is what I’m doing now. I have confidence, and don’t expect a long wait.
The real question is, when it does recover, what then? Use 6 pumps of the new moisturizer from the beginning? Ramp up BP usage very slowly as one should do? (Believe it or not with the previous moisturizer I could actually jump to nearly full dosage and be perfectly fine, long term, short term, all good.) I’m hesitant to again touch a product that ruined a half year of my life, yet faith in Dan has given me so much. There is even a moisturizer review that mentions how terrible the switch was, until this individual quit BP and let their face completely recover, and then on the second go-round found it effective. Could this mirror my future experience? Furthermore I never found the old moisturizer to sting or leave me red. (Maybe at the beginning 4 or so years ago?) Do I really want to pay FOUR times as much, like Mike said, for stinging/redness reduction I don’t need? I really don’t think I can.
CeraVe lotion feels fantastic, perhaps it can keep up. (Cetaphil is quite greasy, can’t sleep in it.) Here’s a thought that I’m just now giving serious merit, this video strengthens the idea that the previous acne.org moisturizer may have indeed been a “super moisturizer” (even more reason to keep it around, along with being cheaper), whereas everything else is quite normal, hence why I can’t seem to ramp up BP usage (say elsewhere than my face) anything like before, even with alternative moisturizers. This would explain a lot, and that my situation, like a great deal of us caught in the conversion, was simply a “too far gone (dry)” scenario. This reduces blame from the product itself, shifting it to lack of early information. This would seem to validate the experience of both of our camps, suffering and joyous. Perhaps this terrible itching (elsewhere, not dried out like my face one bit) is the normal experience of someone using too much BP too quickly, and the previous moisturizer was just so good at what it did I had never experienced it before – and now instead I must proceed incredibly slowly, as the acne.org steps have suggested all along.
Anyways Dan, as much as I love you, please try again at addressing our issues I’ve shed light on!
Everyone else, perhaps this helped.
Dan, I really wish I could like the new moisturizer. I don’t care what it costs or how much I need to use, if it made my skin look like the old moisturizer did, I would buy enough to last forever.
However, the new moisturizer caused such burning and stinging that it woke me up at night. I was up at 2 am washing it off of my face! Since when should your moisturizer wake you up???? I can’t even imagine applying 2-3x the amount as you suggest in the video. I would need skin grafts!!
Now I’m back into the vicious cycle of trialing new drugstore products that cause more breakouts, which is right where I was when I started using the regimen.
I realize that you’re committed to the concept that the new moisturizer is best, but please understand, that the regimen and the old moisturizer cleared up the acne that I’ve had for over 20 yrs. I am so terribly disappointed that the clear skin that I was able to enjoy over the past year is again breaking out because you are so stubbornly withholding the old moisturizer, which is one of the key components of the original regimen.
Please reconsider your decision to terminate the old moisturizer forever, when it worked so well for so many of your clients.
The old moisturizer practically took care of all my bumps by itself. (perhaps that is why some people couldn’t handle the redness?)
The new moisturizer sucks for my current skin type and I won’t be buying anymore…
I haven’t had too much luck using the new version of the moisturizer, but I would be interested in trying the old. I have used new moisturizer for several months, with just “okay” results. I initially thought that I was just not using enough moisturizer, so I started using about 4 pumps, in addition to 3-4 drops of jojoba oil. My biggest problem with this is that all the oi from the moisturizer will actually start getting into my eyes toward the end of the day. I am a contact lenses wearer, and I couldn’t figure out why my vision was getting so cloudy. I stopped wearing all my eye makeup and i narrowed it down to the moisturizer! I’m surprised that no one else has complained of this problem yet. Even when I was using massive quantities of the moisturizer along with AHA, I was never able to fully get rid of my dryness. I am currently in pursuit of a new moisturizer.
Wow, This is the great information, Thank you for the video response, I think this is a clear statement of your dedication to the community, and your willingness to openly address concerns. This new moisturizer is here to stay, then a new video should be made for it’s application. With that said, the new moisturizer works great only on any areas where heavy BP is not used. I only use BP around my mouth and chin, and I have tried using 5 pumps of the new moisturizer, plus 4-6 drops of jojoba oil, for three weeks.
Acne Cures
Dan,
Thank you for this video.
It is apparent that you truly care about acne sufferers as much as you always have.
I have used both moisturizers, I’ve been on the regimen without missing a day since June 2009. Both have their pros and cons. Switching is a non-issue for me, because ever since using your products, I have acne free skin and I get compliments on my complexion without using any makeup.
Just hang in there through this emotionally charged controversy (Yes, we acne sufferers tend to get emotional) and don’t give up on your peeps!
Love and Peace
The new moisturizer is amazing, HOWEVER.. I think you should sell both versions for the poor folks who aren’t as compatible with the new moisturizer.
It’s really hard for me to understand why it doesn’t work for them, seeing that I probably have the driest skin out of anyone I have ever met and have never had any issues with the new stuff. It’s phenomenal, I always hated the old stuff. The old stuff always left me tacky, greasy/shiney, red, irritated and burny.
But you should probably sell both, it seems like a lot of people loved the old stuff and it worked for them. It didn’t work for me, so I can relate to those people a little bit.
In my opinion the new moisturiser actually seems to be drying out my skin. Even when i dont use bp at all my skin is still dry and flaky. I simply use the new moisturiser and my skin has never been this dry. I was thinking that perhaps the sunshine mixed with bp was drying out my skin but i have quit using bp and the GA and my skin is still dry as a bone. I say why not give people the option of the old moisturiser? I know that i will not be buying the new one anymore.
Just ordered the new moisturizer, can’t wait to try it. I had two problems with the old one: it was stinging when mixed with BP making my skin a little red and also too watery for my liking. Both issues are promised fixed in the new one. I hope it is as good as it sounds. But If I hadn’t checked this blog by accident I would never have found out about the new moisturizer! I think you should advertise things like that more clearly on the homepage or something
Thnx for all the good work, Dan
After a few months with the new moisturizer, I don’t like it. Can anyone recommend an over the counter moisturizer that is similar to the old one?
I am so disappointed in this new moisturizer. IT IS DRYING AND LEAVES A RESIDUE IF NOT RUBBED IN FOR A WHILE – THUS CAUSING IRRITATION BUMPS. I AM BREAKING OUT ALL OVER AGAIN! I have been using this new moisturizer for a while now and it is not nice to my skin at all. I WANT THE OLD STUFF BACK! I was acne free and able to wear pony tails. NOT ANYMORE! I will be trying Cetaphil soon. HOW COULD YOU BETRAY US LIKE THIS DAN?!?!? COLD VERY COLD
I used to use the old moisturizer which was awesome. In fact, it was so good that i would not need a lot of BP to clear up acne. The moisturizer itself would make my skin healthy and would almost like heal it. As soon as i started using the new one, immediately i noticed my flakes did not go away and it did not absorb well plus left the yellowish tint on the skin. I tried more but its just never worked out for me. I had a perfect skin for almost two years, and ever since i started epxeriencing skin issues again, since I was forced to start experimenting with other otc creams and lotions, which almost always tend to clog my porews (i.e. cetaphil, cerave.) i have not been able to find anything that comes close to the old moizturizer. Maybe neutrogena combination skin moisturiizer is the least clogging. I use it currently but its still not as good at taking care of flakes. Had I knows this switch would happen, i would at least order 1 or 2 years supply ahead of time. But truly and honestly i never epxected that the new one would cause such issues…
i am trying to understand what the issue is here? Is this happening b/c of the absence of glycerin? If so, what if we add some glycering to it? i have not tried but i might give it a shot.
for those peole who can’t use the new moisturizer, what are you guys using instead?
OK, i am having a serious problem with the moisturizer… it has too many problems. for one it causes people to have a tan/yellow-orange color like i am wearing bronzer. practically my entire school noticed this and even when i spent 30min(yeah half an hour) to rub it in and kept adding more, my skin kept the weird color that is soo dramatically different to my neck color. Also having to use up to 10 pumps to moisturizer for only a couple hours is ridiculous. Plus not everyone can afford to by 5 bottles of the stuff a month because of the price. sure it is calming but it doesn’t even keep away flakes. I am soo embarrassed now up to a point where i don’t know if i prefer the acne or the intense dryness and flakes mixed with the yellow face. And after DAYS of reading reviews and comments on the regimen i see that the flakyness does not go away… for years. I can’t live with that. High School is an unforgiving place and i am already made fun of as it is. If the other moisturizer worked well for many why can’t you produce both of the moisturizers for people to choose for themselves?? i am not giving up just yet and i ordered my second kit without moisturizer and instead opted for AHA and i hope to god that it will get rid of flakes. if only i get rid of them i can live with the dryness and change to the Olay complete moisture. Dan please help me!!
ATTENTION ALL THE OLD STYLE MOISTURIZER LOVERS! I personally have found a successful alternative very comparable to the original acne.org moisturizer! YAY!. Believe me, I am shocked to be on the success side of the story. Nothing (except Dan’s line) has worked for me in the past. I have switched to CeraVe moisturizing lotion. NOTE: I have not tried CeraVe’s am/pm facial moisturizing lotion, only the moisturizing lotion because this is what the store carried. I have been using this on my face and body for 2 months now and absolutely love it. IT IS A LIFE SAVER! It does not break me out, it’s moisturizing, absorbs very well, non- greasy, no residue, no tint, personally affordable, doesn’t take a lot of lotion to do the job, does not sting my skin. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!! If I had to pick a con it would be the natural scent of it. It’s fragrance free, but the natural scent is a little odd at first. I don’t even notice the scent now. I truly hope this will work for you like it has me. (FYI: Just something else that I have discovered. I have discovered that using a fresh piece of papertowel to dry my face off after cleansing is great to exfoliate with. Try ‘smearing’ it along your jawline to your lips and you’ll see all the dead skin cells collect. I am one that needs to exfoliate daily though. )
I’m the guy that wrote the incredibly long comment above, who had a terrible experience almost a year ago.
For starters, I’m all cleared up and life is awesome again. I came back to this blog post to reveal the TRUTHS it took me a lot of time and suffering to realize.
Too long didn’t read (SUMMARY): face drying out (moisturizer switch) reset my skin’s acclimation to benzoyl peroxide — something I didn’t know was possible and took a long time to realize.
All of the suffering from the moisturizer switch that I experienced, the pain, crusting, oozing, itching, irritation, everything… that went on for months with me trying to figure out what the hell was happening… were all the symptoms of using too much benzoyl peroxide too soon, before the skin has acclimated. The correct and ONLY solution is to completely quit BP, wait a good month or so, and begin again with the most infinitesimal amount… half a pea of BP ONCE a day or less, and slowly ramping back to up a foll dose even SLOWER/SMALLER than Dan recommends. I mean *REALLY* slow, the skin is hypersensitive from the ordeal. This is what finally worked for me after 6+ months suffering to be able to apply significant amounts of BP again — which restored all of my hope since the regimen has always worked for me. (I actually ended up keeping a dermatology appointment I’d made a month earlier and going on Bactrim too which was extremely successful and awesome, but it’s Dan Kern’s BP regimen that I know works and is unstoppable.)
I hadn’t stopped using my usual amount of BP, so my skin’s acclimation shouldn’t have been “reset” like this. But something about the moisturizer switch caused it. I was perhaps being too generous with BP, something the old moisturizer could handle but this one couldn’t. Or perhaps more significantly, right at the switch (and with those particular pumps at the time) MORE of the new moisturizer was required, but it hadn’t yet been publicized. So (for a couple/few months?) I was using the same amount of the new as the old, and being insufficient, my face slowly became dryer and dryer. It was *THIS* drying out which reset my skin’s acclimation to benzoyl peroxide. I didn’t know that this had occurred or was possible, so every action I took was the wrong one as I was using far too much BP. I had never used too much BP without my skin being acclimated before, so I wasn’t familiar with the experience. I backed off after encountering problems as you’d expect, but the reality was my tolerance was *COMPLETELY* gone.
So now you know.
Oh just found a note from my ordeal so here’s an addendum, info from when I was slowly ramping dosage back up. (When I had terrible hypersensitivity from suffering with BP unknowingly above my tolerance for so long.)
I was afraid my first slip-up (intolerant reaction) would cause things to compound and become “worse and worse and worse” and require a complete restart (and months wasted). This wasn’t true. I was able to reduce BP to the non-reactive level and keep building tolerance, thankfully. That is all.
Please make the old moisturizer available for purchase. The people have spoken. Ive been on ur regime and supporting acne.org and my skin still isnt clear. It only cleared up when i first started with the original formula. Please… Thanks
