Join me in a cognitive behavioral program to stop skin picking! [BETA]

I did a bunch of research into what they call “self-injurious skin picking”, which is a big problem for a lot of people around here. Picking at your skin is really irritating and can cause ongoing breakouts.

I made a page about skin picking, and put together a “Chill Out Program” which incorporates cognitive behavioral techniques as well as some other good stuff. I wanted to see if some of you guys wanted to BETA test the program with me before I made it live on the site. I’m going to be doing it with you because it turns out that skin picking is pretty much identical to nail biting, which I’ve been doing since second grade! So I’m going to start the program on Monday. Want to join me!?

I do a lot of ‘skin touching’ where I’m always rubbing my hands over my face over spots and scars… that’s probably not good for ya and makes dirt getting there more likely… would that work under this CBT?

I am a picker and it’s ruining my life. I am a very pretty woman, but I am disfiguring myself because of my picking habit. I feel so helpless. I take zoloft, it’s supposed to help, but it doesn’t. Right now I am covered in horrible wounds all over my body and I pick them till they are gross and disgusting. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have this problem. I have had it my entire life. I know if I stopped touching and picking I wouldn’t even have acne at all. But really I just have a lot of blackheads and whiteheads on my face and they really bother me, so I want to clean out my pores out and get rid of the yucky stuff (that no one else can even see). And that leads to inflammation and more problems. It’s a cycle that doesn’t quit. :-(

Gloves help sometimes. I am also thinking of putting on a clay mask when I am alone and that way I can’t pick my face. I only pick at home alone.

How are you supposed to let a big nasty white head just sit there? Please someone give me some advice? I will read the stuff on the links.

I am a picker! I even say to myself while I am picking (in my head of course) “STOP PICKING, STOP PICKING!!!!” ugh, it’s horrible. However, I clean my pimple to prevent it from getting gross stuff inside of it.
