Damn it.. I broke out recently pretty badly around my lips and now I guess I know why. I used a random girls chap stick which she left at my house. Only used it once but now I'm paying the price. Guess you never can be too careful. Any suggestions for making acne around the lips go away, besides the regimen?

Hi Dan,

Do you have any good recommendations about lip balms with spf? and Auqaphor that you mentioned have "Lanolin Alcohol" in it, which you said Lanolin should be avoided. Are "Lanolin Alcohol" and "Lanolin" the same thing?

Thanx for answering!

Dan: From the book "The 4 Week Ultimate Detox Plan" which was created to help rid the body of toxins not just found in food, but in chemicals in everyday products, "Petrolatum is mineral oil and jelly that causes a lot of problems when use on the skin. It can produce photosensitiveity (promotes sun damage) and tends to interfere with the body's own natural moisturizing mechanisms, leading to dry skin and chapping. Products containing petrolatum create the very conditions they claim to alleviate. Manufacturers use petrolatum because it is unbelieveably cheap." (Cook DNM, DAc, CNC. Pg 56.)

Something that I love and have been using for years is pure vitamin E oil. It's kind of expensive initially, but I find it lasts a long time.

(dammit for totally missing the Spanish Inquisition setup!)

Bonne Bell's Lipsmackers doesn't break me out, & there are millions of flavors. I like the Pink Lemonade one. I can also use any of natural ones containing various oils & botanicals. Used to use Vaseline without any problems. However, any stick that has a SUNSCREEN in it DOES cause little bumps on the corners of my mouth.

I used to be addicted to Chapstick until I realized it contained comedogenic ingredients such as D&C red no. 6 (made from coal tar) and isopropyl myristate. Since I always wear lip balm to bed, I began to worry about the transfer of Chapstick from my lips to the pillow case and then to my face.

I have since switched to Burt's Bees Replenishing Lip Balm and I actually like it better than my once-beloved Chapstick. It contains, instead, beeswax and carmine (a natural substitute for D&C dyes) and other natural ingredients. It also contains lanolin, but from what I have read about comedogenic ingredients, synthetic forms of lanolin and its derivatives are more comedogenic because they can penetrate the pores better than natural lanolin. I haven't had any breakouts from it.

Hey, Dan good suggestions. I use jojoba oil sometimes, but mostly at night because it can make my lips a little too shiny and slippery at times. Vaseline works great too, and I use it constantly. They have it in a little tube and in cherry flavor, which is pretty sweet. I don't too much care for any blistex products, because they usually irritate my lips badly. That was so funny when that picture covered his face. The Spanish inquisition? Randomness. Dan you are such a goofball. :)

Debbie i don't know about cocoa butter for you, but a few years back i used it on my face and i broke out a LOT. It does smell good though yum yum

What i dont get is why it breaks you out? unless you are putting it all over......i just put lipbalms directly on my lips i cant see why this would cause breakouts elsewhere. Does the balm spread at a microscopic level? could this also mean that the perfume/cologne/body splash you use could break you out even if you spray it on your clothes and wait for it to dry completly before bringing it into contact with your skin?

Great video guys :D

Hi Dan!

Thanks for the info! What about cocoa butter? I use one of those cocoa butter sticks for my lips; my lips are always really chapped and it's the only thing I've found to keep them moisturized, but will it break me out?

Thanks!
