I’m testing out a bunch of two blade razors to see if we can find an alternate to the Gilette Sensor Excel. Plus, let me know if you guys want me to sell razors on DanielKern.com.

  1. I was told by my Derm to use disposable shaving razor and use it not more than 3 times. Can you also review and good disposable razors out there ? Thanks.

  2. If you can make a razor that really works well, and you find that for the vast majority of people who use it find it not irritating, then by all means go for it. People need to shave, and need a blade that meant for sensitive/acne prone skin.

  3. Dan, if it is a problem for people to find razors, I guess this would be a good idea. For me, I have NEVER had trouble finding a Gillette Sensor Excel. I’ve found it at literally every store in my region, lol. So I’m surprised to hear about this. But if there is genuinely a problem finding these razors it would be good if people could get them at your site.

  4. Ever consider Merkur safety razors? I find no problem with them and I use the really good lather (not the gel in the can crap). Plus, although the razor is expensive compared to disposable ones, the replacement tips are so much cheaper so its an investment.

  5. I also have had problems finding the Sensor Excel, I would say you should try and talk to Gillette, especially before they completely get rid of the Senor Excel and we can’t find it anywhere. I don’t understand why the products that end up actually working for people with acne, mysteriously disappear and are discontinued. Odd how that happens…

  6. Even though i can find the Sensor Excel where i live, I have noticed its starting to become harder to find the blades.

So yeh it would be awesome if you could sell the razor and blades on your site.

Also what about electric shavers ?

  7. Hey Dan,

    Good topic!

What are your thoughts on electric razors?

Here’s my regime for shaving which works well I think (I hope no one is too scared haha).

    1) Shower for a while, get skin nice and warm
    2) Apply shaving cream generously
    3) Shave with an electric razor to remove the bulk of hair, only a little bit (in height) is left
    4) Use standard 2 blade (I think it is) razor to remove the final bits

I *never* get a cut or anything like that, and it never feels horrible. It’s always 100% smooth too.

  9. You should talk/write about the prevention and treatment of ingrown hairs. I know ingrown hairs can be very problematic to me and can contribute to acne. I don’t really know what to do when I get an ingrown hair.

  10. It would be very helpful indeed if I could just buy the razors from acne.org. It would most definetely save me quite a bit of hassel and irritation.

  11. Dan I think it is an excellent idea to sell razors. I don’t know how far you would fare getting it out to us cheaper, but the convenience of you selling razors would be a big plus plus. I also suggest you make a video about ingrown hairs too.

  12. i’m having a harder time finding sensor excel cartridges, aswell. they used to have them at my costco but haven’t had them the last couple times i was there. selling them here would be nice- one stop shopping and we know dan keeps prices low.

  13. Good idea, Dan! If the SensorExcel is getting harder to find, see if you can get that on the site! It’s definitely a good razor.

I will say, though, that I LOVE the Mach3 way more. But I understand that it’s not for everybody ;-)

  14. Hey guys,

Make sure you are shaving WITH the grain on your skin. Dan has touched on this on his website a little bit, but just to reiterate that – it’s important. Everybody’s “grain” is a little different, so be aware. Also, what I’ve found is that while using the Gillette Sensor Excel, one replacement head will last me for about 3-4 weeks. Dan, what do you suggest on how long to use one replacement head? Gillette says in their commercials, at least, that you can tell by condition/appearance of the comfort strips on the blade, but for me it is hard to tell. Give us a heads up on what YOU suggest. Thanks!
