i dont think its the moisturizer thats the problem, its because when you skin gets dried out by bp, when apply moisturizer you’ll get a slight stinging feeling. its just because your skin is dry that you have the string.

i get a stinging feeling when i apply moisturizer to my dry hands.

The moisturizer doesn’t sting anymore (been using for about 5 months) but it does turn my face red and leaves it oily all day. Any suggestions for oily skin??

I found the moisturizer stung for the first little bit, too, but it was bearable. My favourite thing to do when I apply it is to walk around for a bit because the cool air brushing past my hot. irritated skin (post-bp) feels great!
Since I’ve starting using the jojoba oil with the moisturizer, things don’t sting quite as much.

Oh, dear. You’ll have to take me out of the trial equation. I don’t have any of your moisturizer anymore. I had been on the Regimen at least a year when your moisturizer first came out, & that’s when I tried it. I used it for probably 2-3 weeks & had the redness & stinging. So I went back to the Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture. I waited a few months & tried one more time with the same result. So I threw it out.
I haven’t had the redness or stinging with any other moisturizer. And I do have sensitive skin. I just assumed there was an ingredient that didn’t agree with me. It happens; no big deal. However, I am perplexed that you say that many react for a month. Am curious about why this happens, considering that it is a regular moisturizer - not AHA, etc.

First of all, let me take a moment for the obligatory squeal of happiness at being named in one of your videos, Dan! Now I’ll respond to your question…
When I first started the regimen last summer, I used the moisturizer twice a day, as instructed. It didn’t just sting, it BURNED. Like, I was literally tearing up from the pain. It would get a little bit better a few minutes after the initial application, but it still stung uncomfortably all throughout the day while I was at work.
After about three and a half weeks (not quite a month) I decided that it just wasn’t worth it and started looking for a different brand of moisturizer.
I was unsuccessful in finding something that got rid of flakiness as well as the regimen moisturizer, so about a month later I started using it again. Same results. Burning, redness and intense, tear-inducing pain. This time I tried only using the moisturizer at night, because at least then I could go to sleep and not be consciously aware of the pain. Again, Inearly made it through one month of this before I finally decided that enough was enough. That’s when I threw the bottle away.
I did notice one curious fact. Neither the moisturizer nor the BP lotion stung stung at all when I applied them to my bare skin by themselves. The pain and redness only occurred when I applied the moisturizer on top of the BP lotion, which led me to think that perhaps the two simply don’t react well together on my face.
No worries, though! I have since settled on a personal regimen of using the BP gel alone at night, and the AHA+ alone during the day. The BP gel fights pimples while I sleep, and the AHA+ lotion gets rid of any dryness or flakiness from the night before. I’m not completely clear, but my skin does look better than it ever has, so I’m happy. All of the effort that Dan has put into this website has been truly inspiring. Thank you.

The moisturizer isn’t the problem at all. This is a combination of factors, one of which is people not letting their skin get adjusted to the regimen properly.

In regards to Kelsey’s post, the exact same thing happened to me. Stinging is one thing, but when I get fairly burnt (VERY red, burning and ultra sensitive skin that’s painful to touch) that really drew the line. I stayed with it (day and night) for about three weeks (giving myself a day break here and there because the pain was unbearable). Similar to Kelsey, using either the bp or moisturizer separately caused absolutely no redness or burning whatsoever. It didn’t matter how little bp I put on my skin, when the two mixed, my face would begin burning non-stop all day. I have also tried this regimen for two, three week trials to no avail (I felt I needed to give it another try). My skin couldn’t take the combination of the two for some reason. Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture didn’t sting on top of the bp, however it didn’t do a good job at moisturizing, ultimately leaving flakes around the mouth; garbage moisturizer in my opinion. Anyways, I didn’t know what the problem was so I had to drop the regimen (due to a lack of a good moisturizer). I eventually turned to topical clindamycin, which will most likely only work short term for me due to inevitable bacterial resistance *rolls eyes*. I would like to get back on the regimen, but can’t deal with non-stop burning…oh well.
Regardless, great job on site Dan, your video blogs are entertaining and informative to say the least.
Keep up the good work!

I experienced the same intense tear-inducing pain for maybe the first 6 weeks, but I kept with it and then increased the amount of jojoba oil I use (especially around the mouth where it tends to become more dry). I’m not sure exactly when, but at some point over a month the stinging stopped and now it feels perfectly nice and virtually flake-free in combination with jojoba. I probably would have given up the moisturizer and tried to find something else too if it weren’t for the fact that getting rid of my acne was the top priority, no matter how much physical pain would be required to be endured.
(And it was definitely worth it, as my acne is nearly gone after 12 weeks and the moisturizer works great).

I still think using a vitamin E gel cap is the perfect way to moisturize when on the regimen, yes it might be a little shinny for the day, but for the night its perfect, it totally prevents flaking of the skin and leaves your skin soft. if you go to treatment reviews you will notice that many people use vitamin E and they have great results, it helps with scaring red marks and breakouts! because of using vitamin E my skin is much more hydrated and does not have that tight sensation. try it, with time you will all agree. I like dans cleanser and bp but moisturizer not really. but I still LOVE YOU DAN!! without your site I would be lost on what to do with acne.

Thank you, pokerface! Glad to know that I am not the only one for whom the regimen did not work! I think it’s great that the regimen has worked so well for Dan, and for so many other people out there. Everyone’s skin is different, though, and the same things are not going to work for every person. I think that Dan could acknowledge this fact more. This is not to say that I don’t think that Dan’s website is an amazing source of information and support, and very helpful for many people out there suffering from acne. I for one am grateful to have found it.

Dan, the reason my face was getting blochy red like I was saying was because (my hypothesis) I use your AHA+ at night and you say to use an SPF moisturizer. So I dont think your moisturizer made me red but the fact that I wasnt using an SPF moisturizer as I should of mad my face red. Do you think this is true?
March 13th, 2009 at 1:10 pm
Yeah its not just Dan’s moisturizer, its just that your skin gets a kick from being really dry from the BP to being really moisturized when u apply your moisturizer.
March 13th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
The only time your moisturiser has stung my face slightly is when my face is really really dry and flaky. When I wash my face if it looks really really flaky and then I apply BP and then the moisturiser it stings a bit but then this goes after about ten minutes. I haven’t had any other problems with it and I thought the redness I had was from the BP rather than the moisturiser.

Dan how come some peoples names on these comments are coming up blue and when you click on them they take you to other websites. Not sure how this has been done!! You might wanna do something to stop that.

It’s always heartening when you respond to our comments, Dan. When I started the regimen, which was very recently, I used a bit more than a full pump of benzoyl peroxide each time I did the regimen. I used more than you reccommended because prior to going on the regimen, I had been using 10 percent benzoyl peroxide for some time. I assumed that my face would already be used to the benzoyl peroxide. Now, however, my face is becoming very dried out, so much that sometimes I put on your moisturizer more than just when I am going through the steps of the regimen. Perhaps the moisturizer is stinging so bad because I am over-drying my face, and the solution is to simply reduce the amount of benzoyl peroxide I am using.

Dan, could you please explain WHY the stinging happens? I’m no scientist (far from it!) but I’d like more of an explanation than simply “the moisturizer is super-duper moisturizing”. Thanks!

I’ve been using Dan’s moisturizer since it first came out without too much fuss, but it still stings a bit when I use it. Recently my face was getting very irritated (and red) for some reason, possibly the cold, so I got desperate and tried Emu Oil. I use it after I apply the moisturizer and so far I am REALLY happy about it. My skin has been much less irritated and just seems to look better. So I plan on keeping Dan’s moisturizer for now. Also fresh aloe is a sweet instant relief for irritated skin.

when the bp and the moisturizer are applied together there is obviously a chemical reaction. it doesnt really matter what kind of moisturizer you use. i used clinique and ponds moisturizer and they both sting. it isnt too bad and it will probably stop after a few more weeks according to others. :]

initially I had the same reaction as this- I blamed the moisturizer for the stinging and flakiness I experienced. I found that increasing the dosage of the bp and moisturizer minimized the contact that my hands had on my face, thereby minimizing the overall irritation.

I have been on the regimen for six weeks now, and the moisturizer still burns my face and makes it really red. It also does this to my throat/neck area, though I don’t use any BP there. The reason I started to do that is because my neck has become supperrr dry for absolutely no reason? Then, I try to put moisturizer on and it BURNS. I’m not sure what the problem with that is, but just wanted to write and say that it’s been six weeks and my face is still burning and red.

Hey everyone…I pretty much have a solution to the moisturizer burning thing. When I first started the regimen the moisturizer burned. It also made my face very red. What I did was I started just doing the regimen at night and nothing in the morning. I also started waiting like 15 minutes, which I think you’re supposed to do, in between using the bp and moisturizer. My acne got a little worse at first. but then I started doing the regimen in the morning too and it stopped burning and my acne is all cleared up yay! So my solution is wait the whole 15 minutes in between using bp and moisturizer and start out just doing the regimen at night, but if after a month the burning doesn’t go away or you’re breaking out in a rash then stop. You may be allergic or something. Oh and thanks Dan for clearing up my face. You’re a lifesaver!

I had used other Made from Earth skincare products before, and liked them, so figured I’d try the Vitamin Enhanced Moisturizer. I’ve been using it for about a month now, and really like it.
I was having issues with combination skin vs. dry windy winter weather, and this Made from Earth Vitamin Moisturizer is really helping quite a bit.
I’m lazy about using moisturizers so I don’t use it every day, or twice a day, but when I use it my skin feels better. That has motivated me to be better about using it then any product in the past has. It helps the dry without adding any trouble in the oily areas. It doesnt smell since its fragrence free, and once it’s on your face and absorbed it fades completely.
Everyone has different skin, but this is worth a try. The price seemed expensive at first, but considering it lasted me for three months, its way worth it - usually moisturzers finish in a month - but this last 3 months so its a GREAT value buy….
also i bought online at their website at *link removed* - i found that cheaper (even with the shipping cost) rather than in the stores..

so my face is super super oily, to the point where i’m a complete grease ball! i’ve just recently started Dan’s regimen, and so far it has completly just left my skin way better than it was before, but the moisturizer it make’s my skin way to oily, i’m scared that it my break me out? i have stoped using it since i fear that the oil and moisturizer my brak me out? but i’m thinking of just using it at night since i wake up with no oil on my skin which is weird. Does any one have oily skin? and uses Dan’s moisturizer?

My son was given everything except accutane for his acne. Pretty bad large red cysts with clusters of smaller ones. After having tried combinations of prescription creams and pills I saw Dan’s site. It made sense to me about the BP, so I ordered the BP, moisturizer and AHA along with jojoba. It has been ten days and my son’s face has cleared up by about 85%. He still has some small red pimples but the large red deep ones have been killed off. He has has some redness and stinging. Nothing, Nothing has given him results like this regimen. I mix some jojoba into the moisturizer and it works well. Also, the oil alone is sometimes enough. I can tell you that the photos on this site have not been as severe as my son’s acne. So, I suggest following the regimen and substitute a different moisturizer for those of you that don’t like the results. But the BP is really the stuff that fights the acne bacteria…the reults have been amazing Dan, thank you so much
