Check out our new facebook page.
Dan, I’ve done some facebook applications before as I run a web design company. I did the interface not the programming, but those are very popular on facebook. Basically they let you add an application to your profile which on one click and it shows up on the users “boxes” or sidebar. It would be a great idea to spread the word about acne.org if you could come up with something catchy to make people add it to there profile. There’s also bumper stickers application which is popular, could make an acne.org bumper sticker to add. Facebook would be great to spread the word of the website.
Sounds cool. I’m going to become a facebook fan.
I am on myspace.. but I guess I’ll have to sign up for facebook now.
Maybe I’m just cynical, but just to be critical in case it helps, my very first reaction when I looked at the facebook page was that it seemed kind of basement cult-y, I mean how like a dozen really similar pictures of Dan are front and centre. The “Hi, I’m Dan” head is good, but it would look better if the videos didn’t take up so much space. Maybe you could post the odd text message between them? Maybe the ‘friends’ display could be expanded, or another bean or two added… at the same time, the videos look so much more inviting when they’re shot in good light, preferably outdoors or close to outdoors: the mix of less amateurish lighting ‘contrasting’ with the friendly tone is really inviting. Also I see what you mean about having the smiley face; the square looks better than a smiley on packaging (actually, having just Dan Kern on the packages would be best for us shy folks, and we’re many), but on computer screen I think a smiley would be better. On the facebook page having that much space devoted to a plain old square looks pointless….
Can i help out with the facebook?
thats a good start but it could look so much better!
To be honest, I dont think facebook will do very much for acne.org. Facebook is a public entity that allows everyone to see what it is youre registered for. Acne is kind of a personal problem that nobody really wants to share with all their friends. It cant hurt to create a group, but I honestly dont see it doing very much for you.
acne is a personal sensitive subject, but Dan could launch a campaign on facebook to let people know that yes acne is a common problem with all ages and that we shouldn’t be afraid to be who we are because of it. He could let people begin to first accept they have it and that they are perfectly normal, and then send the message that acne.org is here to help you get rid of it.
A simple application could be made that displays a sticker or an image of some sort on the side of the users profile stating “I’m a proud acne.org user” or something along those lines with maybe random facts about acne to make it sound like it’s not the end of the world if you have it. If it’s done with the right image to keep it fun but serious it would be a success on facebook.
Urrrrgh. Dan, I don’t want to be a party pooper, but man do I hate Facebook. I mean, I have one because of a few stubborn friends that refused to get MySpaces, but Facebook is just… so… I dunno. Obnoxious, I guess. It’s all updates and application requests, and I hate that. I don’t need to be informed of everybody’s every waking moment, and I don’t enjoy being bombarded by application requests every time I log in.
Now, don’t get me wrong–I think it’s great that you and this site are branching out, and I think that, for people that actually enjoy Facebook, this could be a really positive thing. I’m not discouraging you from this Facebook endeavor at all, really. I guess I’m just worried about the whole video switchover thing. I really enjoy these daily video blogs, but I don’t want to have to go to Facebook to see them. Please tell me you’re just going to have, like, a feed or something, so I can still watch them here.
Right. So. I sound like a complete brat. I blame Facebook entirely. : )
I would like to see it on myspace. I’ve never used facebook and I don’t think too many people that I know use it. They may have tried it but stuck with myspace.
Anyway, I have been dealing w/acne since 4th grade, I am now almost 40 (ewwww). Although it was not as severe as the adult acne is, it was still very humiliating for me as a child, especially when other kids were cruel enough to tease me about it. For this reason I would not be ashamed to have acne.org on my myspace. I believe we would all like to have a cure for this miserable condition if it’s out there for us.
I have three children that have mild cases of acne and I would like to see them get it under control now and not end up like me as an adult w/scars.
I think myspace and facebook would be a big help in spreading the word, especially to adolescents…they are on them all the time and have hundreds of friends from around the country.
