Hey, still not really sold on the smiley face. A big problem is that the O is quite overpowered by the black text around it, so that when looking from it a bit further it looks like ‘Acne. rg’ at first glance. If you go with this at least try something like using a darker blue or make the O black and only the face inside blue, etc.

But still, I’d be careful about adding small frills in the text itself. I think they just detract from the clarity of the brand name. I think the best logos really are the simplest. Just think of all the biggest logos out there, a simple swoosh, 2 yellow arches arches, etc. I did a quick look at other big acne brands as well as general skin care product brands. Everyone basically had a carefully chosen font and at most had a line or a colored border. Your blue square design is actually the most stylized and memorable designs out there already.

Between the playful font, the nice sky blue color, and cleanness of the square, you’ve got a really good thing going. The smiley just pushes it over the top, in my opinion.

However, the smiley as well as the bean guy, are both really nice elements on the site. Perhaps you could look into incorporating them more into the overall design on the site and on the bottles.

Hi Dan

I’m a an Illustrator and Graphic Designer and I’ve been reading all the comments on your blog about the logo.

I can see that it is very important to you that your logo conveys the (very important) message about what acne.org is trying to achieve- and that’s to put the smiles back on peoples faces. I remember how miserable my acne used to make me (I only wish I had found your site/products 10 years ago)! I think that’s why you are always on the look out for an alternative logo and I agree that the logo really should convey a message that is obviously very important to you. I think the logo at the moment is very simple and sophisticated like a lot of people are saying but what does it say about the company? What message or feeling is it trying to convey?

I think keep the square as it seems to be very popular- I wouldn’t have the smile instead of the square as it has been done before (which was the first thing I thought of when you first showed us the idea). I REALLY REALLY like Donna’s idea (which you just showed us) of the smile on the face in “org” but I think you should definitely keep it hand drawn like the writing- if you make it uniformed it will loose it’s appeal, charm and originality. You want your face to be unique.

Anyway obviously that’s just my opinion- but I hope it helps even a tiny bit!

Please keep the square. For me the most important thing an Acne website should represent is seriousness, not happiness. Acne is often only seen as something “natural”, and complaining about it is often looked at like you’re a sissy that cares too much about your looks. I think the blue square logo tells people that acne is a serious problem and not just a cosmetic thing. The playfulness of the soft font and the jelly beans is enough, but then again, that’s only my opinion.

I agree with both Donna and Emma, the square is such a great logo, simple and bold. In addition, the smiley in the “o” within .org is a nice touch, although you would need to blend it in with the rest of the text as Mike pointed out. BTW my next shipment of acne.org supplies are on the way, jojoba FTW! Thanks again, Dan.

I agree, keep the square on top then the hand written font “Acne.org” with smile in the O under the square. It even kind of has a message in it, how you can go from dull square to clear of acne and happy hah I don’t know. Best of both worlds I say. Thanks Dan!
