  1. You can go here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5fggwBHVME until it gets fixed. Also I kinda like the idea of the smiley face Dan, but I do think it would be nice to keep the colors. Its a nice way to distinguish between the different bottles, so colored smileys would work.

  2. I was thinking a more distinctive logo would be great. This would allow you to take Acne.org off the front of the bottles to make it a little less obvious.

  3. I think the square attracts my attention much much more. The face makes me think of a smaller franchise where the square makes me think of a successful company. Stay with the square! and post your videos on youtube! It will definitely have people researching your product a lot.

  4. I agree with Jakub, definitely stick with the square…it’s simple. Also, with new products, you can always change the color of the boxes. The smiley faces are cute, but they’re a little too cute.

  5. I HATE the new logo proposition. I LOVE the square. When I first saw these products, that was what originally drew me in. A smiley face would be too amateurish, it would look terrible, and if you keep changing your logo, you are going to confuse customers. The logo now is perfect, PLEASE don’t change it. I don;t want people looking on my bathroom counter and seeing a lame, ugly, overused smiley face. I’ll stock up on your current products.

I am sorry to be so harsh, I just have to be honest! No matter what the logo is, you still have the BEST products. But, seriously, don’t change the logo!

  6. Yea, I think thats a great idea Donna… or just the square. I like the square. Oh and I think putting SA in your cleanser is a great idea too! lol

  7. i think you should go with the smiley face that is filled in!!!!!
it also represents the many happy faces of the acne.org family that has tired your products!!!!!!!

  8. dan I love everything you do, but I have to disagree with you on this idea. I think the smiley face isn’t defined enough. You need something strong, simple and unique. I think you should take a lot of time to think about this and come up with various different ideas. In the interim, the square logo looks great. I’m not a fan of the smiley face idea. If I think of any logo ideas I’ll let you know, but for now I think you should hold off.

  9. the smiley face is awesome yes, but the square really does give that sophisticated feel. There always room in the website for those faces

  10. I like it the way it is really – clean and simple logo. If you had to switch it atleast it should be a smiley face with pimples-haha.

  11. Keep the squares unless a better logo idea is made.

i’m against putting a smile in there, it’s quite a nice idea but i think the square brand is a lot stronger and less common than a smiley. if i was a wanky marketing type you could say that it was clear, simple and efficient (like the products…) but I’m not so I’ll just say i prefer it :)

  12. I like the filled in smilie face – the squares always seemed a little random to me. I never got that.

And it’s good to finally see you, Michelle! I’m glad you’re feeling better, we’ve been hearing about how ill you’ve been for awhile now! Yay for getting better!

  13. Sorry to keep double posting, but what if we had a competition on the site to design the new logo? Dan, you could tell us what you want the logo to convey, and we could put our collective minds together to come up with it. Maybe there’s one you like, or aspects of several that would work well together. Just another idea. :-)

  14. The square would be my choice. It is simple and, as someone said earlier, you can change the color for different uses. Smileys are everywhere so they don’t stand out like the square.

  15. well…if you change the name of the regimen to “DKR” (I know this is an entirely different poll happening elsewhere) you could make the logo a stylized D, or DK…some brands do this…

I like neither square (random) nor smiley face (generic), sorry!

  16. Definitely stick with the square over the smiley face. Changing logos isn’t a bad thing, but between those two the square is much better.

  17. or how about like the opera faces (? theater faces?) where one is sad and one is happy and the sad one can have acne and the happy one can have a blue face (blue to me equals calm).

  18. The whole changing on the logo is weird. I’d rather have the filled in logo though. But in my opinion it seems fine the way it is.

  19. I love the logo. A happy face – it’s simple, to the point, and represents what many members find themselves doing when they see their faces clearing up do to the wonderful information obtained from the site. :)

  20. “Due to” rather. If not just a plain smiley face, how about the blue square with a smiley face inside of it? It’s the same, but different if ya know what I mean.

  21. Square. Please.
As long as you keep Acne.org with the logo. The square is simple and clean. Kind of what I think Acne.org represents. If you need to change something, please change the font? :)

  22. Square!! Like people said it is much more sophisticated. If I used a product with a smiley face I would feel more immature than acne already makes me feel. And I am also saying veto to the smiley face in the “o” in acne.org. It is silly, if you ask me!

  23. I have to agree that the smiley face seems a bit immature and unprofessional. Yet the square always seemed totally random to me. I like the idea behind the smiley face though — community, happiness, and a face. What if you use a more refined and sophisticated drawing of a face? Something an actual artist might draw? I’d keep it really simple so it stands out better. If you really wanted to get across the idea of community and support, you could make it several faces, but you might lose some of the visual impact that way.

  24. The square is way better. There is something very unique, simple, and at the same time distinctive about the square. The smiley face is just okay, the square is much better!

  25. I love the filled in smileys around the site, perhaps have him somewhere on the bottle? I still prefer the squares in the middle of the bottles though (:

  26. How about a * square * smiley face?

You could keep the blue square that a lot of people love, but give it more personality with a smiley face. Kind of like the Mac logo: http://developer.apple.com/softwarelicensing/agreements/images/logo_maclogo.jpg

  27. I like the smiley face, maybe the filled in one better. No offense but I just don’t understand the square…it’s just….a square, what does it represent? It’s just a shape.

  28. I find myself agreeing with Alex. I was thinking something along the lines of http://stefanieanne.com/stefdkrlogo.png but it’s probably been done a zillion times.

  29. i like the original style/packaging you had when it was the tubes and the light blue with the darker blue.
also, what happened with the idea of being able to peel off “acne.org”? some of us don’t like the stigma the word “acne” has. i’d rather see danielkern.com

  30. I like the square best. If you have to use a smiley, use the filled in one. Or what the person above me said, put the smiley in the square. That might look nice. I think you’re right the smiley represents acne.org well, but we should find a way to incorperate it into the logo better. I thought that the smiley as the “o” in acne.org was a nice option as well.

  31. I like the idea of putting the smiley in the square like everybody suggested… and I also would like you to take Acne.org off the bottles… I always turn my bottles around so the word ACNE doesn’t blast out from my bathroom counter. Something about it i just don’t like… Maybe it just reveals to much about me to my guests that they otherwise wouldn’t have to be privy to.

  32. My Vote: Square. Professional, modern, clean.
    Smiley face? The opposite.
Smiley face in the square? Too techno for my taste.
Don’t like the “Acne.Org”? Find a cool box or basket to hold your product that covers the logo? I like to advertise the product! You can always put the bottles away if you don’t like them to be seen, whatever part of the logo you don’t like. Or transfer the products to plain bottles for the counter.

  33. Keep the square. It’s minimalist in design, and adult.

Kids will see a smilley face, and think it’s for them.

You don’t any confusion. Your products are serious

skin care. Keep it as such.

    Keep up the great work!

  34. I like the square the best, its simple, clean just like dealing with acne and the regimen should be. Acne products should look professional, clean, and simple. A smiley may just make it look too childish and un-proffesional. Stick to the old logo and take off acne.org on the bottles or just put it more on the bottom and a smaller font. If you really want to use the smiley make it outlined in white to be clean and inside the square.

  35. I think a logo change is a great idea if it stays simple and professional. The smiley is not professional at all. Maybe a color change of the square or overlapping squares. But definitely NOT a smiley face.

  37. I can’t put my finger on it but I like the logo the way it is. If you do a smiley face, because I get the point your driving with it, I hope you go with the smiley face that is filled in.

  38. As for the comments about taking “Acne.org” off of the bottles….if I didn’t have something from acne.org in my bathroom, it would be something else that was labeled for “acne,” so I don’t know that it bothers me that much. Shoot, I’ve had washes, lotions, supplements, makeup, etc. (just about anything) in my house that was labeled as being useful to treat acne, so…

  39. I like the smiley that’s not filled in. When you said you were thinking about a new logo, I was thinking, “He should go with the smiley face.” and then you held up the smiley face picture and I was like “Wow.” LOL. I agree, the smiley face would not only represent community, but I think it would also symbolize how much HAPPIER we are when we are on the way to getting clear. :)

  40. okay, if i had to choose from the options you gave, i would choose the smiley not filled in.
when you are on the home page of this website where that little video box is, you know the little pimple zit cartoon thing below the video box, i think that should be the logo exept filled in with green.

  41. At first I was attracted by the not-filled-in smiley face, because it conveys just that–a smile. However, I feel that the “smiley face” is overly done in the commercial sector, ESPECIALLY by Wal-Mart. So I would stick with the square. To quote a post made by Joe in January, your regimen and products are “serious skin care,” not children’s skin care.
Keep up the good work! :)

  42. I like the idea of the smile face but i think it would be cool to incorperate the previous symbol of just the square and the face together. You could instead of doing a blue smiley face you could put a white smiley face into the existing blue square, samfe face same size just white face into the blue acne.org square. what do you think?

  44. The blue square all the way! The smiley face is nice for the website but for the products, the square works better.
I also agree with another person who said that you could put danielkern.com instead of acne.org. This way, it still has text to go under the square.

  45. totally open to any ideas up for discussion Dan –
I think the smiley face is good, but not as good as the square, much similar to everyone else’s opinion.

This is one of those cases where ‘the simpler the better’.

You’ve done an incredible job at giving your products a simple yet elegant look with everything in place now. Changing it would be approaching a discomfort zone for a lot of us, not to mention all of the other unfavorable things about the stomach that’s already out for discussion.

That said, maybe it is us simply not wanting a change because the way it is now is honestly just fine, in fact it’s lovable really.

It’s pretty unbelievable that such a simple icon has done wonders for product’s image. My vote is to keep it!

  46. i like the square

if you had to pick a smily (even though I personally don’t want that) I would say smily not filled in. I think you should look for something else besides smilies if you’re really into changing the logo.

  47. Hi Dan! I just ordered your whole line of products and I LOVE the square logo on them, BUT I did also think they were a little simple. I think the ultimate awesome logo would be the blue square with the smiley face INSIDE of it, just in white instead of blue. Don’t you think that would be the best of both worlds? Not too much, not too little. Just right… kinda like your regimen!!!

  48. Square. It’s sophisticated. The blue color denotes calm and traditionally stands for togetherness. If you must have a smiley then put it in the “o” of “org.” But I agree with others that the smiley has been overused and seems juvenile.
