Trying just AHA at night
I’ve been a big fan of 10% glycolic acid for years. I’ve found that it’s a great spot treatment and seen it work great on people’s body acne as well. Recently I decided to make one for us myself, and added lichochalcone, a powerful licorice root extract which may be incredible at interrupting the inflammation cascade (it’ll be out in the coming months).
At any rate, I started using this new 10% AHA + lichochalcone in the evenings in place of my usual moisturizer a few weeks ago. My skin has been 100% perfect since then. The regimen usually keeps me clear, but every so often I’ll at least see something minor trying to pop up that I need to zap with AHA. But since I started using the AHA at night, I am in no fear of having anything whatsoever. It’s pretty great. So, in the interest of experimentation, as of two days ago I started using only the AHA at night and eliminating the benzoyl peroxide. So far so good. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.
I should mention that I am also trying different SPF formulations pretty much every day in an attempt to formulate the perfect SPF for us. Playing with two variables at the same time (eliminating BP at night and changing SPF each day) is not the smartest way to figure out what works and what doesn’t, so my experiment is a bit flawed. Regardless, if I can stay completely clear with just AHA at night, even with changing my SPF moisturizer every day, that’ll be pretty cool.

Dan, you are god ! but ehm.. this might sound stupid but plx hurry with it !!
I’m from a place with sucky customs and costy export so prices for me gets around 3.5x expensiver
(example i bought a suplement for 93$. ended costing 185 aprox.).
my last tube of benzoyl peroxide has aprox. 1/4 left and i dont feel like ordering more for that sad price i have to pay for items outside EU when i know im gonna order your AHA too :/..
furthermore my last year in school begins in the end of july, then i have taking economy for 3 years, and the last 2 years i have really had a crush on a girl from school, but cant do anything with this hexed face of mine, and low confidence :(.. changes are diminishing
but no matter what, i wish i could repay your devotion to this somehow, you really are awesome

Are you serious?!?! You added lichochalcone! OMG I love you!. You really do need to package it quickly so we can try too!
I love lichochalcone. Its in Godiva Skincare products which i use almost religiously. I always noticed my skin was so soft and nice every day. I normally use it to keep my skin light and get rid of marks I have. I’m so happy its in the AHA! I’m excited. Cant wait till it’s being sold.
What bottle size is the AHA in again? and any news on the Salicylic Acid?

Hi Dan, thanks for making all the amazing products! I’m just wondering, is it possible that you can also make a version of AHA in toner form? My face is so oily that does not like moisturizer at all. I tried your moisturizer, the texture is amazing, but still too rich for my face. Love your BP, so awesome! Please consider the AHA in toner form. Thanks!

Hi Dan
Just wanted to say that I’ve been using an AHA moisturizer in the morning and evening after the BP gel as my skin is soooo oily I felt I needed extra back up! Back up to keep the really bad acne that I get at bay. And so far (touch wood!) its been brilliant! I’ve used it morning and night for about a month - if I feel my face is getting to dry I also put your moisturizer on after- I just do what my skin tells me. I wouldn’t say I have bad acne as my face isnt covered in acne - I get a few a month which doesn’t sound bad but I am prone to getting nodules or cysts which as you know are awful and fill me with dread if one starts forming. So I would recommend this method to anyone who feels like me they need extra back up -try using the AHA with the BP as I’ve found the two together is a very good way to stop a spot dead in its tracks. Hope this helps.
Cant wait to buy your AHA Dan as it sounds even better than mine!

Any update on Dan’s Salicylic or 10% AHA for us? I’m really excited about these products since the Eucerin Alpha Hyrodoxy lotion is no longer available. Will it be coming out in May or June? Also, what’s safer for darker skin? 10% Glycolic or the Salicylic?

I’ve been using AHA as well only at night, the souffle by Alpha Hydrox product line. It’s been working pretty good and my dermatologist told me today it’s very good for acne.

Please do give us an update on your new products. Perhaps even a product timeline? My hope is that you will come out with the jojoba, sal. acid, and AHA in the spring, so atleast a few more of us can have clear skin by the summer.
thanks for the new stuff!!

I agree with erik, i wish we got emails when the blog got updated. Dan, did you stop using the Salicylic acid treatment in the morning, or did u just stop using BP all together?

Hey you guys. I’ll post a new blog entry with some answers to the above. Also, I think there’s a subscribe option to the blog if you want to know when it is updated. I’ll ask Joel about it further, but I think you just click subscribe up at the top and do something that way. I get emails regularly that say, “so and so subscribed to my blog”.

The button to click for subscribing is at the bottom of the front page of the blog. http://www.acne.org/blog/
