Pros Cleared up acne, very quickly.
Cons PanOxyl brand of B.P. burnt my face, neck, and chest - it looked like I had a severe sunburn, only after 2 days of use once per day.
Bottom line I found the Clean and Clear to work the most effectively without eaving a burn. I'm not sure why this happened since both brands are 5%. I would definitely recommend B.P. to anyone with light - severe acne - it works wonderfully! I have tried countless products over the years and this is the only one that actually works. Some other benefits are that it is relatively cheap and easily accessible!

Pros I used Benzaclin:It did a good job of clearing up my skin when I was using it.
Cons Dried out my skin even in areas it was not applied; burned my eyes when i sweat; bleached out towels, pillowcases, and washcloths-even when I thought it was all off my face; when dc'ed use, my acne became worse than it ever has been!!!
Bottom line Benzaclin is definitely NOT worth it!! It is now months since I have used it and my skin is STILL worse than it ever was before I started using it (I am 39 yrs old and have dealing with acne since my mid-20's).

Pros Cheap, available OTC, did not irritate my skin, skin showed improvement within 7-10 days, keeps blemishes to min, comes in heavy creams, water based gels, and wash and rinse face washes, comes in a broad range of strengths
Cons Can bleach towels and if put on at bed time can bleach pillow cases. I just used white towels and pillow cases and then had no issues. Can also lighten your bangs a little bit, so just be careful when applying.
Bottom line Out of using many products, next to real strong antibiotics (which are not good to take long term), Benzyl Peroxide was by far the best product I have ever used. I was amazed at its results when I first tried it—finally after 6 years of nothing really working without burning my skin I started to have the skin I always wanted.

You must also be consistent about applying it, depending on how bad your acne is—I washed with a Benzyl Peroxide wash in the shower and then applied a water based gel before I went to bed.

Pros Worked great, cleared up my skin within a few weeks
Cons Makes my skin burn painfully
Bottom line This worked great on my skin. I had acne since my pre-teens and since I began using this, it was the first time I saw my skin so clear. At first it would burn my skin but I thought it was normal because other acne products also tend to sting a bit. However, I noticed even after my skin had cleared that it would burn severely. I couldn't touch my cheeks because of how much they would hurt. Sometimes it would hurt when I smiled too much. I couldn't stand the burning so I stopped using it - bad idea- I broke out and now I'm worse. I went back to the dermatologist who prescribed me differin gel [i thought this product would probably burn less] which made my skin worse. Then I tried Proactiv Solutions, still no change, and lastly Clinique Acne Solutions which feels light and smooth but only resulted in big bumps around my jaw line and cheeks. This time I'll ask for Benzoyl Peroxide again, even if it burns, it's the only thing that works for me.

Cons None
Bottom line Great product for me. I use it nightly and it doesn't dry me out but I do have really oily skin so it works for me. With my insurance copay it is $25. I believe w/out that it is quite expensive.

Pros works pretty well after only a week!
Cons sweating reacts really badly in combination...
Bottom line I have been using the acne.org regimen but i am beginning to dry and find other solutions. i'm an athlete, so i run and sweat a lot. i noticed that after i sweat my face would sting after using benzoyl peroxide. i had a race one saturday so i figured i would take the day off from medicating my skin. it didnt really help. my skin still stung and i had completely washed off the benzoyl peroxide from the day before.
i'm a little confused on what to do about it. it's on its way to clearing up my acne but when i exercise a lot it hurts pretty bad and turns my skin reddish for a while.

Pros cheap
great spot treatment
convenient- dries and won't rub off at night
Cons very drying on the wrong parts of my face
Bottom line I only use it on spots and on my chin. The rest of my face breaks out only when it gets dry, so trying the BP on the rest of my face was disastrous. This really works for me and my skin is looking great- only one spot on my chin now, and it'll probably peel off tomorrow. This is a huge difference from where I was a couple months ago. I wish I tried this earlier. OTC stuff didn't do anything for my acne when I was younger, so I didn't think something like this would actually help. But it has!
