| Pros | 1) Cleared up my skin after using it as a mask twice. 2) Reduced the size of my cystic acne on my forehead and cheeks 3) Brought up small whiteheads |
|---|---|
| Cons | 1) Irritates a little 2) If used too often, can really burn skin |
| Bottom line | This product burned my skin after the second use...and here is the reason why: I was starting using lemon juice every other night to see how it would work. It prevented new acne from forming as well (I recommend it). When I read about how effective Baking Soda is, I decided to give it a try. Only thing is, is that I did not let my skin "breathe." One night I put on the lemon juice, the next night I used the Baking Soda as a mask, next night was lemon juice again, and the night after that was another Baking Soda mask. My skin was red and tender that I could hardly touch it. So I decided to leave my skin alone for a few days and just wash it with a cleanser. It has been about 3 or 4 days and my skin is back to normal. I'm going to be using the Baking Soda as a scrub at night and as a mask once a week. Let's see how that works. But overall the results were quick and noticeable. Hell yeah I recommend it! |

| Pros | Cheap, natural, no chemicals easy to use/purchase |
|---|---|
| Cons | can irritate skin if not diluted enough (exfoliant) or rinsed properly |
| Bottom line | Natural! Love baking soda & started using it on my face, in my bath, rinsing body & hair after showers & in my laundry. Really has no adverse effect on my skin & I have totally forgone commercial soap for baking soda. Leaves me feeling clean and fresh. Clears up acne, exfoliates dead skin (abbraisive, so rub lightly...dilute more at the beginning and work your way up to more abbraisive feel if desired) My skin looks and feels 20 years younger! (I'm in my early 50's)... Bakin soda is slightly caustic, so it will irritate the skin. Being an alkalai, it regulates your skin pH and makes it unhospitable for bacteria that would otherwise thrive and cause nasty body odour. For those who need to use very expensive or prescription deodorants, try baking soda and see if it doen't help there, too! |

| Pros | - the only product I have ever used that quickly got rid of cystic acne - smooth skin - evened out my complexion - prevented breakouts - cheap |
|---|---|
| Cons | - burns/temporary rashes the first couple uses (can be countered with aloe, very good for the skin) - when it dries, the baking soda gets real flakey - doesn't seem to counter hormonal acne... |
| Bottom line | My skin is extemely sensitive, oily (thanks, genetics), and stubborn against most treatments (Proactive, Clearasil, AcneFree, and Neutrogena made my condition WORSE!) . In my mid-20s, my extremely severe acne seemed to finally calm down, but I would still get occassional breakouts and horrible cystic acne on my cheekbones, towards my temples, and along my jawline that would remain on my face for months and when it finally started to heal, it would leave huge blue/purple scars under my skin...and I hadn't even poked or popped the infections! So my skin has a permanent light rash from bad products, blotchy from cysts, and scars from when I used to pick and from cysts I let heal. Anyway, the first time I used this, I mixed it into a paste and left it on for a half hour. Much to my horror, my skin burned, was really flushed when I rinsed it off, and so I had to put aloe on it. I would not have used it again had I not noticed one thing: the swelling on one of my cysts decreased a lot. After a couple more uses every other day (left it on my face for up to an hour), all my cystic acne was dried up and gone! I also started to notice that my complexion was becoming even-toned again and my face was incredibly smooth. Also, I felt I was getting less breakouts. Sadly, it doesn't seem to do much for my hormonal acne breakouts that I get as I approach that lovely time of the month. |

| Pros | Clears up most acne Great exfoliate Cheap Leaves skin soft |
|---|---|
| Cons | (some people say it's messy, but in reality, it's not even an issue) possibly an issue for those with sensitive skin? (i can't really say because I havent had an issue) |
| Bottom line | I started washing my face with baking soda about a month and a half ago and my face has gotten so much better. Since I was 10 I've had moderate acne and tried all the exfoliants and acne treatments. I had been sort of accepting my face as it was and decided why not give baking soda a shot, it can't hurt!? And within a week my skin cleared up. I get the occasional one or two zits that come and go, but it's better than the constant four or five horrible that I was used to. I wet my face, then put about a tablespoon of baking soda in the palm of my hand and drip a bit of water in it to make a paste, then scrub. I rinse with cold water and that seems to shrink my pores. Every so often, I follow up with an ice massage on my face, which gives me a soft glow the rest of the day. Overall-do it! You've got nothing to loose! |

| Pros | Cheap Great exfoliator Cleared up my acne Improved skin texture Helped smooth my scars |
|---|---|
| Cons | None! |
| Bottom line | I have had moderate acne since I was 10 years old and I have tried everything. I went and got acne extractions and chemical peels for years and paid a lot of money for expensive products. 6 months after I got married I ran out of my expensive products and was tired of paying so much for things that didn't work. I read about baking soda and I gave it a try. It changed my skin in a matter of weeks but I decided to keep using it for 6 months before I gave it a review on here. I absolutely love it and my skin has never looked so good. What I do: Every other night I get my face wet, pour about a tablespoon into my palm and then add a few drops of water to make a paste. I rub it around on my skin not to vigorously but enough to exfoliate. I rinse it off and then I wash my face with a gentle green tea cleanser. I will sometimes apply diluted apple cider vinegar after I dry my skin because I read that baking soda can throw of your skin's pH balance. I love how smooth it makes my skin feel and that it has done wonders for my acne. |

| Pros | Clears up most of bacne Beautifully smooth skin Fades scars |
|---|---|
| Cons | Irritating on sensitive skin Hasn't necessarily clears up my facial acne- yet |
| Bottom line | I love using baking soda! I saw this on here and with it's pretty sturdy review, I decided to give it a shot. The first time I used it, I only mixed it with a wee bit of water, so it was very concentrated, and smoothed on my face as a mask. It was a lovely cool feeling for the first minute, but as I am on doxycycline, retin-a, and aczone, my skin is super sensitive, and so I washed it off as soon as I felt a burning pain on my nose and undereyes. Ever since, though, I use it blended in with my go-to cleanser (Clean & Clear Foaming Facial Wash Oil-Free) and it exfoliates and freshens like a charm! I bring a small bowl of it with me in the shower and blend with a gentle salicylic acid body wash for my back and chest acne, and it's super effective! I'd also recommend even using it with your regular body wash on your legs, arms, etc. It so exfoliating and lovely for the body, I couldn't NOT recommend it! So although I cannot say it's cleared up my acne, I can say it's an added pick-me-up to my too-long-used regimen! |

| Pros | -Brought white heads to the surface quickly |
|---|---|
| Cons | - Made skin red (temporarily) |
| Bottom line | I forgot to pick up my topical acne prescription before the long weekend, and my skin breaks out as soon as I stop using it, so I resorted to baking soda. It works in a pinch, I had two pimples that the paste I made of water and baking soda dried out and brought to the surface. I recommend it as a last resort if you're out of your usual products. |

| Pros | Left skin feeling a bit soft Unclogged pores Got rid of my blackheads Scars are barely noticable |
|---|---|
| Cons | After washing it off, it left some flesh coloured bumps on my cheeks. Skin got dry |
| Bottom line | I'm not sure if I have sensitive skin or not, but after I washed off the baking soda, my cheeks were irritated and had flesh colored bumps on my cheeks. It was irritating and red. It did go away but it took quite a while for it to. I don't recommend this to people with sensitive skin. |
