| Pros | -Really lightens the acne scars -cheap |
|---|---|
| Cons | -drys your face like no other -burns (if left on too long) -doesn't prevent acne |
| Bottom line | First, I tried mixing baking soda and water alone to cleanse my face. I realize that if your acne isn't "popped" yet, it won't do much to reduce the redness. Remember if your using it as a mask, only leave it on for 5 minutes. Over 5 minutes will burn your skin!! Trust me! (However, if you read below mixing it with honey will reduce the burning effects and thus you can leave it on longer) Secondly, I mixed baking soda with honey and a tiny, tiny bit of water to make a paste. I used as a mask and left it on for 20 minutes. This really lightens your scars in about a week!!!!! Overall, I stop using it because of the after effects of drying and burning that I got. Also because it doesn't help much with preventing acne. |

| Pros | Great exfoliator Easy to use Cheap Lightens acne scars Brightens skin Smooth skin Tightens pores |
|---|---|
| Cons | Can leave a a white residue on sink if it isn't clean up A little bit of irritation after the first few uses Can be very drying IF you don't use a good moisturiser |
| Bottom line | This needs to be used consitently in order for it to work,so use it for a week to see real results. I ran out of Cetaphil cleanser a couple of weeks ago and tried out baking soda with a few drops of water (to make it into a watery paste). It WORKS! My acne scars are so much lighter. I must say that my skin looks a lot better. It feels very smooth,my skin has a better glow to it,and my pores look smaller. I haven't had any breakouts since I started using this. It's honestly a great product. The only thing is that there can be a little irritation after the first few uses of it,but that goes away.Make sure you use a good moisturizer to prevent your skin from being too dry. |

| Pros | - soft, tight skin - large pimples reduced - redness dissapears - feeling refreshed |
|---|---|
| Cons | - somewhat itchy - heavy - irritating for the first five or so minutes |
| Bottom line | I was blown away, literally. My acne isn't severe but it does breakout and it is extremely annoying. I used this very simple, very cheap mask and I am happy I did. What I did: 4-5 Tbsp. Baking Soda 2 Tsp. Warm Water and mixed until I got a solid though slightly wattery paste, thick enough to stay on your skin and not drip off. I dabbed the mask on in large chunks, avoid rubbing it on your face as much as possible, just let it sit on then smooth it over. I left the mask on for about 20 minutes. I then rinsed with warm water ***do not rub the mask off*** The baking soda will make small abrasions on your face. Just make a cup with your hands of warm water with your face looking down at the sink, and wash it off. It should be about 6-8 handfulls of water to get all of the mask off. The results are amazing :) I am so happy this worked for me! |

| Pros | Makes skin feel soft, skin looks brighter and feels clean. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Haven't found any cons yet... |
| Bottom line | This isn't a miracle worker for me, but I have been using it for a week and noticed my skin tone looks more even and some of the scars have lightened a bit. I use it every night as a cleanser and once a week I leave it on like a mask for ten minutes. It doesn't burn my skin at all, and it hasn't dried out my skin either. Benzoyl peroxide burned my skin and dried it out. So the baking soda seems to be working. I am going to continue using it and hope for no more acne! |

| Pros | Cheap Convenient Effective Gentle Versatile |
|---|---|
| Cons | If you're not careful, it can be harsh on the skin Messy |
| Bottom line | I've been using this stuff for a good while now and have seen fantastic results! It has reduced pore size, evened out tone and helps speed up healing time if I have a breakout. I've seen numerous sources state that if you have acne-prone skin, it is recommended to exfoliate twice a week with this method, but personally I think that's a tad too much. Baking Soda's pretty potent; if not used with care, unpleasant results could occur. I use this once a week after my usual daily cleansing and my skin has improved more with it than it has in years. I only knocked off one little 'happy-dancing-egg-man' because as mentioned, it is potent and can be pretty harsh if you're not careful (speaking from experience). I say at the very LEAST give it a try, and make sure to start gradually. |

| Pros | Great exfoliater. It really does work better than acne products. Dirt cheap. Works relatively quick in getting rid of red marks. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Stings your face the first few times you use it. (Don't wash it off right away. Leave it on for up to 5--10 minutes then rinse in the shower. |
| Bottom line | Using this every other day for a couple of weeks, my red marks that seemed like they were taking forever to go away finally were fading. I swear to God this is the only thing that has been an effective treatment for post-acne red marks. Please try this out! You will not regret it. It's the secret that the big acne product companies don't want you to know about. |

| Pros | cheap easy to purchase |
|---|---|
| Cons | harsh on face very drying to face causes redness on face |
| Bottom line | I found out this method when googling for a gentle home remedy exfoliate for acne prone skin. I also read a lot of the reviews here on baking soda, and I realize that a lot of people run and post a review literally minutes within they FIRST try it...For most acne products, precription or over the counter, it takes weeks if not months to see the effectiveness. It is very misleading information when the product has not be used or tested for a longer period of time. After 2 weeks and using baking soda twice a week ask an exfoliate, about only 1/4 tsp mix with 1 pump of Cetaphil...my face has became very red and dry. It's really hard for me to believe people can tolerate this for up to couple times a day everyday?! I will stop using baking soda as an exfoliate due to the redness and dryness, my skin cannot tolerate it. And when I rethink about this, it saids on the box baking soda is a great scrub for pots and pans...why would you want to scrub your face that is great at cleaning your kitchen?? |

| Pros | Easy to make Cheap Effective |
|---|---|
| Cons | Stings a little Flaky when dried Heavy on face |
| Bottom line | I've had acne for about a year now. It's not enjoyable. I blame my diet a lot because on the weekends I pig out with lots of caffeine and chocolate. On the week days I drink some water, and I don't actualy eat that much. I plan on improving that though. The thing is, I've been trying to gain weight because I'm as skinny as a twig. I guess my diet for that has been doing some part on my face as well. Anyway, I tried to use commercial cleansers like Clean and Clear, which didn't work. I tried Proactive but that gave me a facial rash. I guessed I was allergic and I haven't used it since. I tried going to the dermatologist but he prescribed me Oxy Clinical treatment. That sort of worked for a while but it dried out my skin. I didn't mind though, but I ran out and that's probably where my bad eating habits kicked in. So I tried a homemade face mask. I mixed together lemon juice, baking soda and baking powder. I slathered it on the infected areas and I left it on for a little while (I'm sorry I can't tell you exactly how long. Jut wait until it gets real dry and whenever you move, little flakes fall in front of your face). Then I washed it off with water and washed my whole face with just water. Once I dried my face, my pimples had lost redness and had maybe gone down in size. I used that mask for a while and then my pimples alltogether faded! It was pretty amazing and didn't cost a thing for me. It might for you if you have no baking power and soda and lemon juice on hand. |

| Pros | -Cheap -Can use as a facewash or mask -You control the consistency |
|---|---|
| Cons | -A little stinky -A little messy |
| Bottom line | Baking soda has been working amazingly! I've used ProActiv, Philosophy, Juice Organics, and Clinique in the past. However, baking soda has worked the best so far. It has slowly been clearing up my skin and I can't wait to see the results in the weeks to follow. I've noticed reviews stating that baking soda burns - for me I've tried so many products that the slight tingling sensation doesn't bother me at all. So if you are in the same boat (meaning you've tried so many things to get rid of your acne!) then don't worry about it stinging. My regimen: Wash face morning and night with 1/2 tbsp baking soda and 1 pump Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser. Follow with Apple Cider Vinegar toner (1/3 cup apple cider vinegar, 1/3 cup green tea, 1/3 cup water). You can google other recipes; some use aloe and other ingredients to make it smell better. Apply CeraVe lotion. |
