| Pros | Cleared up face within a few weeks. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Headaches, swollen glands, swollen/sore neck. Discontinued for a few weeks, then restarted once I finally felt better--thought symptoms may have been unrelated. Same side effects happened again. I'm also allergic to minocyclene. |
| Bottom line | Still sick from the side effects. Quit taking medicine 3 weeks ago. |

| Pros | Stopped getting larger sized pimples around the face. Pretty much controlled the big breakouts. |
|---|---|
| Cons | The very small white pimples did not go away. Blemishes took forever to clear up. When I went from taking 2 to 1 a day my acne came back. |
| Bottom line | Age 22 - I took Bactrim twice daily for 2 months, definitely controlled the breakouts. However, I still had many very small pimples around my forehead and upper cheeks that did not go away. I went from taking 2 a day to 1 a day, and my breakouts came back. It was a good medicine, just stopped working after dropping the dose to once a day. Blemishes were harder to go away as well. I workout, drink plenty of water, and have a high protein diet. Not sure if its related to the medicine. Overall I would recommend it if you have an important in the coming months to get a clear face. Its also a pain to take it at the exact same time everyday. or every 10+ hrs. |

|---|---|
| Cons | upsets my tummy a bit |
| Bottom line | works beautifully so far. noticed a SIGNIFICANT difference in 24 hours. i usually have 4 to 5 cysts on my face at any given time. they hurt and they are embarassing. right now though, i have a tiny little zit on my forehead. thats it! after years of hiding my face with makeup, i feel naturally lovely. | Pros | Kept me ~80-90% clear for years |
|---|---|
| Cons | Caused very painful kidney stones Lost effectiveness over time |
| Bottom line | This was my mainstay for many years after having gone on all sorts of antibiotics, topicals, and accutane. It was by far the most effective antibiotic for me, with little to no immediate side effects like most others. But eventually (after a couple years) it caused recurring kidney stones. I suffered through many kidney stones over a couple years before figuring out it was this medication. My Docs were clueless that this could be a side effect (even though it is listed as a possible side effect online). Haven't had a stone since I've been off of it. It might be rare but a heads up for others that might be on this long term. Trust me, you wouldn't wish your worst enemy to pass a stone - it's that painful. That and the fact that it lost its effectiveness against the acne meant stopping treatment with Bactrim. |

| Pros | Works when using, but takes awhile to start working |
|---|---|
| Cons | After using for 5 months, it was like my skin became immune to it, and it stopped helping. |
| Bottom line | This is a very old drug. It's main purpose is to clear up UT infections, and other infections in the body. After hearing about people dying from taking Bactrim, and the fact that i still had bad acne, i decided to stop taking the pill. However, if you trust medicine, and do not have harsh acne, i'd suggest it, but not long term. |

| Pros | My skin is so smooth...probably smoother than a baby's butt. I have been using this for about 2 weeks and then stopped, theinfection came back...now I have been on it for over a month (not counting the 1st time) and I wonder if the acne will come bak |
|---|---|
| Cons | The fact that it's an antibiotic - yeast infection happened once. |
| Bottom line | The best stuff in the world (can't say anything about what will happen after I stop using it in a week)!! |

| Pros | Looks good so far. I have struggle with acne for 5 years and I am very self conscious about what I look like. So far my face looks pretty good. |
|---|---|
| Cons | None yet |
| Bottom line | If you have tried everything else and don't want to go down the accutane path then I would recommend trimethoprim. |

| Pros | None so far |
|---|---|
| Cons | Unbelievable allergic reaction. Sore throat, rash, itchyness especially around my eyes, neck and genetil area. Definitely got the flu symptoms. |
| Bottom line | I took it for 5 days and had the most severe allergic reaction. Never had an allergic reaction before. Went off it and the doctor prescribe Predisone to combat the reaction. Suddenly my skin was perfect. I suffered from alot of whiteheads / black heads and large pimples. Then a week later my skin went bad. Doctor prescribed Doxy and then my skin went worse. Monocycline does not work for me. Doctor then said try the Bactrim again and the reaction has been less, still get the sore throat and flu symptoms, sore lower back (kidney's) and some itching. I have been on it for 5 days now and have not seen any diference except the side affects. Personally I don't recommend this product and I am thinking of taking Accutane now cause nothing works!!! |
