I was perscribed Bactrim and I LOVED it. It cleared up my face perfectly in like a week except I found out I'm allergic to Sulfur and ended up in the ER with a 104 temp, a rash, severe headaches, stomach aches..etc. But it did clear up my skin! Any ideas on what might work now? Has anyone ever had bactrim work but with an allergic reaction and then been switched to another medication? Which medecine? Did it work just as well? Thanks.

I am 20 years old and I have been on Bactrim (Generic) for 2 months now. I had an initial breakout from taking this prescription, but it seems to be working more and more each day now. I still am not satisfied so I believe I will be trying accutane very soon. Hope this helped.

I have been using minocycline 2-3x's a day, with retina-micro... had mild results but still scarring horrible breakouts...I then changed dermatologists and was put on
Bactrim DS((trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole) for only 3 weeks so far...I saw results with 1 week myself...My skin cleared up and no more breakouts!!!...I know I am not allergic to Sulfur so I did not have any problems taking this...It has worked like a miracle..I never knew my skin could be so clear....I have been backing off the retina-micro and using for only spot treatment if even needed to gradually get rid of the peeling so my skin looks smooth and soft instead of constantly peeling...I use cetaphil wash for oily skin to cleanse and cetaphil moisturizer as needed....again, I was on the same regimin with the minocycline and that was just not the right pill for my acne...If you are not allergic to sulfur, the Bactrim, Septra works amazing and is definitly worth a try!!!

Unfortunately, Bactrim didn't work quite as well as I was expecting. I'm now 21, and I've been battling acne since adolescene. The only thing that ever worked for me in the past was Accutane, but after a couple of years my acne came back even stronger. I started seeing a dermatologist again, who had me try to lighter regimens I had never previously tried, but none of them worked. Bactrim worked slightly better than anything else, but not to the extent that I had hoped. I noticed I never got any whiteheads while taking it, which I used to get all the time. (In fact, as soon as I stopped the Bactim, whiteheads formed immediately the next day.) However, I still got blackheads and cystic formations that inevitably left scars. In addition, I got the worst side effects with this than any other meds in the past: headaches, slight itching, even trouble sleeping. Because I did not have full remission, and because of the side effects, I feel I have to return to Accutane. Side effects maybe be equal, but it gets the job done.

I just came back from my dermatologist after taking minocin for 2 months with little to moderate effectiveness; he just prescribed me Septra DS and Differin as a last resort before going to Accutane. I have read all the good stuff about Septra DS, I can't wait to take this pill. I'll let you all know how its working.

I was on Bactrim DS twice daily for about a month for my acne, and it was working great (along with Retin-A Micro 0.1%). Unfortunately, I began to have allergic reactions to it (rashing, swelling, itching, and headaches). I had to stop taking it. My derm has prescribed something else for me since then.

So, Bactrim is not for everyone!!! I have use almost ever acne medicine avalible!!! And I'm always sick, so I've been on ALOT of antibiotics, so I thought, no big deal.... I had HORRIBLE allergic reactions to this medicine!! So, be careful!!! And all it did was make my face worse and make all the acne I had scar... so not everything is right for everyone... but keep tryin!!!

After going on Minocycline for 2 months, I was exposed to a more humid climate for a few months, and very quickly i noticed the minocycline stopped working. I was then prescribed bactrim, and here's what it did for me: I noticed that it prevented me from getting a lot of new whiteheads, but when i did get the odd one, it would leave a marks on my face that has still not gone to this day (3 months later). It's great that it, for the most part, stops breakouts, but when i do get the odd zit or pimple, i have to look at it for months on end, not sure when these spots are going to go away. Gonna try and go back on the minocycline and see if that works, i could handle a few zits a month if it meant the spots would clear up in a few days like they used to.
