| Pros | clear skin extremely affordable |
|---|---|
| Cons | sensitivity to sunlight it is an antibiotic |
| Bottom line | Female - mid 30s - i have been taking this med for approximately 6 years. it has worked very well for me until recently. i assume after taking an antibiotic for so long you would become immune. it was the "miracle" pill for a long time. tried minocycline, tazorac, differin, finevin, ziana, different types of OC (birth control pills) and this was the solution. i tried multiple times to stop taking it - sometimes i would manage a couple of months, sometime a week, but my skin would go crazy, so back to the Bactrim each time. i am really going to try and stop taking it now because it is no longer working that great and i really worry about taking an antibiotic that long, but i do worry what is going to happen... i have a rx for .3% differin and benzaclin and am thinking along the lines of PDT. i will let you all know. good luck everyone, this is a seemingly never ending battle |

| Pros | Worked immediately, easy to use |
|---|---|
| Cons | Caused me some bad side effects including nausea and severe joint pain. |
| Bottom line | If you don't have severe reactions to it, this should work for you. It stopped my acne from the first week, but the joint pain was too severe to keep taking it. |

| Pros | the hope of one more pill that works quickly |
|---|---|
| Cons | sucks that i became immune to doxy then mino, now i have acne a 3 time i have to deal with |
| Bottom line | starting to work after 3 weeks, may have to run existing bacteria out of the skin so yes it may unfortunatley 'get worse before it gets better'. I switched from bxoil perox to duac, differen to tazorac, with finacea, and plexion dry wash. still doesn't cut it, the only thing that works for me is a pill for 6 months then become immune as i did on doxy and mino |

| Pros | Clearing up skin after not even one full week of use! |
|---|---|
| Cons | None for me - BUT - if you or anyone in your family is allergic to sulfur, possible bad reactions to this drug! |
| Bottom line | This was my derm. last effort before accutane, and it has dramatically reduced cystic acne. I break-out on my chin mostly and have had only 2 minor pimples and I'm only in the first week of Bactrim/Generic. I also use Retin-A every other night, along with Benzoyl Peroxide wash morning and night. My skin is really sensitive and has been peeling/flaking a lot - so I am going to cut back a little on the Benz. Peroxide wash and see if this helps. Good luck to all of you guys!! I know we can all find something that works for us. : ) |

| Pros | You will see amazing results within days of starting this medication. Works like a charm! |
|---|---|
| Cons | Occasional headache and upset stomach. Also, after getting off of it slowly but surely your acne comes back and you'll have to get right back on. Also, missing doses is a big no no! You will break out horribly if you miss!Don't miss and you'll be ok. |
| Bottom line | I have been struggling with my skin for over 10 years. When I turned 17 the derm put me on Bactrim and it kept me clear for over 4 years. No, I wasn't completely clear everyday but it limited my break outs and helped and improved my skin so much and better than any other product out there. I know they say it's horrible to stay on anti-biotics for long periods of time but let me just say, I was on it for 4 years and had perfect health. I wasn't sick one day in 4 years and no exageration. Not even so much as a cold which for me is very odd. This medication helps with every kind of acne a person is struggling with and I also noticed that my pimples were less painful and red amd vanished within days. Also, the biggest tip I have for anyone is to NEVER pick at your face. That can cause more damage than you realize. I would pick my face everyday and little do you know that just spreads that infection to other places. No picking! Wash your face in the dark if you have to. I do, it works:) |

| Pros | Took awhile (about 3 weeks) but does seem to be working |
|---|---|
| Cons | None, no allergic reaction |
| Bottom line | During the end of summer my acne suddenly went from mild to moderate with at least 3 or 4 new spots per day and tons of red marks. Had been on mino for 3 years which worked great (along with BCP) but I'm pretty sure I became immue to it. Started taking Sprio but after a month, no improvement. Derm perscribed Bactrim to help until the Sprio kicked in. It took about 3 weeks but literally one day I woke up with no new spots and haven't had any since. I think it's the combition of both the Sprio and the Bactrim because I was suprised that Bactrim didn't work right away for my moderate acne with all the reveiws here on quickly it works. Right now I'm on 2 pills a day and will probably dose down to 1 per day next month and I have to see how it goes.. |
