This did wonders in clearing up my skin, but I am one of the unfortunate few who is allergic to the medication. =\ At the time of my medication, I was also suffering heat rash (California is EXTREMELY hot this summer) ... so my skin dried out even more. My acne cleared up real quickly, but my throat, arms, and wrists dried up even more. I had to be picky with my moisturizers because most of them aggravated my itchy and dry skin. One evening, I made a huge mistake in taking a hot bath (I was attempting to soothe sore muscles) and I ended up getting a fever that evening! My face kept getting hotter and hotter ... and I could not sleep that evening. While getting up to use the restroom, I passed out from extreme nausea and dehydration. The following morning, I awoke with red discolorations all over my torso and legs. Not only that, my body was very swollen. My face was beet red and it took about a week for it all to go away. I stopped the medication after that morning.
Falling asleep was also a difficult routine ... I often got prickly skin in the evening so I usually fell asleep from exhaustion. =\
This medication does its job in getting rid of acne ... but just make sure you're not allergic to it.
I am now taking Cephalexin and I have yet to see its results. So far ... my skin is back to how it used to be (oily), but I feel a lot better physically.

I have suffered from acne for many years, as have many of my family members, including my father who still takes antibiotics for acne at 60! Tried lots of medications, Minocycline I found to be excellent but can interfere with contraceptive pill so was prescribed Trimethroprim (on its own, no sulfamethoxazole) and this has been fantastic, slight side effects at start when drinking alcohol; caused severe nausea next day but this has seemed to stop after approx a month or two, have been taking for approx 4/5 months now and never get any spots/pimples anymore, I would recommend highly and maybe that would suit the person who was allergic to the sulfur, Only thing I'm worried about now is whether it will return when I finish the course....

I had been taking minocine for over 1 1/2 years. the effects finally wore off and I talked to my dermatologists that I didn't feel the med was working anymore. they agreed, and prescribed bactrim. I'm currently only beginning my bactrim regimine, but I have had an initial breakout - my face looks worse now, but I expected it, honestly, that's the same with most medications. The idea is that it fights and kills the bacteria under the skin...well, if it does that, the bacteria is going to react and blah blah blah...you're oging to have more pimples until they finally all go away! so I'll be upating this soon to let y'all know the progress, for now...bad....but hopes are high!
