| Pros | making my skin tone more even, lasts for a long time |
|---|---|
| Cons | i thought it would work faster. have to wash your hands right after b/c it has a slight bleaching effect and may bleach your clothes if you are not careful. |
| Bottom line | i've read previous posts and i have to say - i have never had any stinging sensation after using this medicine and have been using it since August. I put it on once a day in the morning after using a 6% benzoyl peroxide face wash and never had any stinging or redness. it does feel a little too dry at first, but a little moisturizer over it works fine (i use cetaphil w/ spf15). i was put on this medication b/c my acne went away, but left me with dark scars on my skin which aren't going away. the derm wanted me to try this since it has the bleaching effect to even out my skin tone. it has worked pretty well, just wish it would work faster!! |

| Pros | I've used this on my face for over 7 years; it's the only thing that works consistently over time. Yes, it takes a while to get used to the stinging, but after a couple of weeks, it was fine for me. |
|---|---|
| Cons | You need to keep on top of it and use the product every day. I have lapsed and the acne comes back. Depending on whether you have insurance coverage or not, $ 100 USD every few months might be quite a bit of money to spend than some folks have. |
| Bottom line | I've used Accutane and while that worked to stave off cystic acne for many years, it was so difficult to go thru the harsh initial breakout and dryness symptoms that I cannot imagine using Accutane over Azelaic ever. I have also used skin systems like Obaji that included Retin-A, if eliminating deep pigmentation isn't an issue, I'd stay with Azelex and a topical antibiotic. |

Azelex works well to get rid of my major acne. All big legions disappear, but I broke out in a bunch of very small ones. If I use it consistently twice a day, the small zits clear up to an extent. Causes redness in sensitive areas such as the neck. Definitely improves smoothness of the skin.

I've been using Azelex for about 1 year and a half. It works great through out the whole treatment period. I have combination/sensitive skin plus acne rosacea since a teenager. Azelex works great on my acne rosacea and I've tried many other prescription/OTC product before, but nothing works as well as this. I'm now a 26 year-old pharmacist, and personally, this is by far one for the better product out there that works for both acne and acne rosacea. Azelex prevents future breakouts, and it also has exfoliating effects. It is normal to have tingling and some burning sensation when you first apply it, but it should disappear within 5-10 minutes. I have a friend with sensitive skin who are also using Azelex and it's still working great. It also really halps me during my monthly breakouts. I highly recommend it to people who have sensitive/normal skin type. People with very sensitive skin type should try to apply on a small spot on the face first before applying to the whole face.

I'm 20, facial acne.. tried everything for months, switched from doctor who presribed me benzaclin in the day, differen (adapalene) at night, and 100mg doxycycline, as well as to use gentle face wash (cetaphil) and a moisturizer (oil free spf) switched to a proffesional dermatologist who after a month long waited appt, bumped my doxycycline up to 150mg once a day, also gave me Finacea (azelaic acid)cream to help with red spots and another cream i forgot but have not yet been prescribedi think it was benzaclin + hyrdocortisone), im still using benza-clin as i have gone through countless jars of the crap, im going to keep adapalene cream to (at night)n doxy seems to help a little but nothing is getting rid of this acne

I use this for acne on my chest, as a preventative method. Was previously prescribed Fucidin cream (not to be confused with Fucidin H) which did a wonderful job of clearing everything up. Azelaic Acid is keeping the acne away for now (and has actually cleared a small flare up from a few weeks back). No burning, stinging or initial breakout.

OMG! this medication COMPLETLEY changed my life! 9 months ago I was diagnosed with having acne/rosacea, and my derm prescribed azelaic acid "Finacea". I seriously cant even describe to you how happy I am with the way my skin looks now!!!! My face is so clear! NO MORE PIMPLES!!!!!!!!!!! : )and all the redness I use to have is GONE! GONE! GONE!!! I use to be sooooo embarassed of the way my skin looked that I didnt leave my house in two years!(not even to the mailbox!) and ever since I started to use finacea Im now going back to school, working, hangin out with my friends and just enjoying life to the fullest!! I still cry like evryday because Im just soo happy that my skin cleared up, I thought that No medication would ever clear my skin up and calm the redness down and this god sent medication did the trick!! It did itch a little bit at first but the results were showing up soooO FAST that I could care less about the itching!!! By one month I could say my skin was clear by about 85% and by two months it was actually clear! I get an occasional pimple here and there Id say like every month or so, pretty much when its that time of the month...!! finacea is just AMAZING TO ME and I will always be so grateful for the the people that made finacea!!

ive been using this for about 3-4 weeks now and honestly im not impressed. i made the mistake of putting this all over my face in areas where i didnt have acne. and sure enough this stuff gave me acne in my former clear areas (forehead). it was only mildly helpful at best with red marks but i'm still getting whiteheads after nearly a month. when does this stuff start working??
