I am a 28-year old female battling mild/moderate acne for the first time. I started using this product 5 months ago at night, along with a prescription for Benzaclin in the AM. Differin caused a horrendous initial breakout, which has left several faint scars. While it prevented any large cystic pimples from forming, my cheeks and forehead were consistently red and covered with tiny bumps (a problem that I never had beforehand). Over time, Differin also caused some dryness and irritation around my nose that even moisturizer couldn't fix.

I just recently stopped applying Differin every night and have strictly been using the Benzaclin, only before bed. The small bumps I mentioned are rapidly disappearing and no more irritation around my nose. I am undecided if I will use Differin again. However, my skin is looking much better than before it was prescribed.

This stuff did not work at all and was expensive even with health insurance! It was slimy and dirt stuck to it-by the end of the day or night the medication was balled up on my skin like stick boogers. Not worth the time and $!!!

I have been on Differin for about a month. I suffer from mild acne, which most people with acne would give their right arm to have. Since I have been on the product, my acne has worsened to where I have three to four major pimples at any given time. The pimples I have do not seem to want to heal. I used Benzaclin before and it worked tremendously well. My skin was very clear and I would only have breakouts two to three pimples every couple of months. The reason I switched was because of the bleaching properties of Benzaclin. It is such a pain in the butt not trying to touch any clothing when it has been applied. I have ruined so many nice clothes because of Benzaclin. I am going to stick with Differin for another month or so to see if things get better. It is hard, but I understand that I need to give the medication a chance to work. For those of you who have only let the medication work for a month or so, you may be missing out on something good. I will write back again in a few weeks to detail my progress (if any).

I been using differin gel for 3 1/2 months now. My acne wasnt that bad. It was just on one side of my face (left side). But once I started using it my acne got really bad on the right side that I didnt have acne on. SO now I have acne on both sides. The pimples were so big that it hurt when I touch them. Plus when I would wash my face with the benzoyl peroxide wash 5% my face would get really RED, and little skin would come off...like i had scratch my face. So I really dont like differin gel..DIDNT WORK for me

i have had differin for a while 1st put it on noticed my skin broke out even more, so i stopped using it, but within a few days of having been back to the Doctor, she prescribed it 2 me again. But i am 13 and have acne on my back,chest and all over the lower part of my face. I have had acne since i was about 10 and it really depresses me, i am about a week into my differin and have noticed a slight improvement on my back and am awaiting change to my face, although i appear to have more. i hope that this works as i reckon i have had every type of topical and oral medication there is.

I've only been using this stuff for about a week, but I've noticed a difference already. My skin's not perfect, but it's much better than it has been. The price of mine ($20), I might have had insurance to cover it, i don't know, was a little expensive, but I've paid more for products that didn't even work. It dried out my skin a fair amount, but I highly recommend it.

Differin has cleared up my moderate case of cystic acne, and I love it. Your dermatologist may not mention this, but IT TAKES SEVERAL MONTHS TO WORK. It took 3 months before I could honestly say I was happy with my skin. Visit the Differin website to see what I mean -- they have photos of faces pre-treatment and at various steps along the way, and in some cases it took 3 to 6 months to really work. I recommend sticking with it for at least 3 months before making a judgment. Your skin will most likely continue to break out during that time, but it slowly gets smoother and clearer.

I was fortunate in that my skin didn't have much of an adverse reaction to this medication. But a word of caution -- stay away from scrubs, waxing, and other harsh treatments. With Differin they can really, really irritate.

If I have one thing to share from my years-long experience of trying to treat my acne, it's "don't give up," Everyone's skin is different; keep trying till you find what works for you.

This does not deserve a 2.5 stars. It deserves much higher then that. It's just you idiots who don't have patience with the cream and use it for a week that rate it a 1.

The downside about this product is that your skin will get *much* worse before it gets better. The first couple of weeks I started using it my chin and cheeks broke out like crazy. I was so self-conscious and thought this product was crap. But after 8 weeks, my skin started clearing up rapidly and now I have clear skin. Now and then you are going to get the odd 1-3 pimple break out somewhere.

I also use this the Cetaphil - Oily skin cleanser Face Wash. My doctor recommended Cetaphil - The Gentle Skin Cleanser...But most of you rated he cleanser much higher, so I went for that, and it works so well.

Oh, and this product doesn't even dry out my skin like a lot of other people. But I really do recommend using this product if you haven't already. And *PLEASE* wait about 2 months before you come back to rate it.

I started breaking out in high school and the doctor put me on retin-a. It helped but my skin was so dry and red, it was awful. Now that i am in my 20's i started breaking out a little aroung my hairline and 1 or 2 pimples on my cheeks. I'm paranoid about my skin so i went to an awesome dermatologis in downtown chicago. They prescribed me differin gel and it got a little worse the first week or 2 but now that i have been using it for a couple of months, i will never use anything else. Differin is amazing and i recommend it to everyone!

I have mild acne especially now because I got off birth control about 6 months ago. My doctor prescribed differin and minocycline (been using differin alone for 5 days now

). I looked up minocycline and a lot of the patients said great things about it but that the minute they got off of it their acne came back but even worse. My wedding is approaching in another 6 months and I am scared of the initial breakout and it never leaving as I have heard plenty of negative things about differin.
