This my third entry in this site and my 8th week on Differin. IT WORKS. My doctor prescribed me differin, tetracycline, and benzoyl peroxide wash back in mid December. For the month of December and January, my skin broke out really bad. It was to the point that I hardly went out. I stuck through with my treatment and this week I happen to notice that my skin has cleared up alot. This is the most that my skin has been clear and alot of people have noticed the difference in my skin. My facial regiment is: I use the benzoyl peroxide every other day in the morning. I take my pills once in the morning when I wake up and a half an hour before I go to bed. The days Im not using benzoyl peroxide, I use Neutrogena Multipurpose wash for sensitive skin. I use that in the mornings that I dont use bp and every evening before I go to bed. Right before I go to bed, I apply the differin. I also started taking vitamins A, C, and E. For those who are just starting out with the product, dont expect fast results. It will take some time and patience. Stick to the treatment your doctor prescribes for you. You will benefit from it.

I used differin a few years back and it cleared up my skin pretty well. I just started getting really bad acne again and my doc first put me on Tazorac. That just made me feel like I had vaseline on my face. I am now back on differin and have been for a few weeks in combination with oral antibiotics. I dont think I am getting the same effect I got before.. My skin has changed over the years and i dont think differin is doing it for me anymore. Any suggestions?.. My doc is not really helping...

here's the deal with the differin....HOW you apply it is extremely important. My skin is incredibly difficult to deal with and has been for a long time. I've always like differin gel, but the cream makes my skin break out and many of the "gentle" cleansers you're supposed to use while on it make me break out as well...even cetaphil. during the summer i was using the gel and my skin looked pretty good...then winter came and i got soooo dry in some areas that i decided to stop using it which made my skin break out, mostly along my jaw line which drives me nuts. after several weeks of using nothing on my face (basically just to let my skin rest and balance itself out in terms of moisture), i began washing with DDF sensitive skin gel wash which costs a million dollars at sephora but really doesn't dry out your skin and is still foaming face wash which i prefer to lotion washes like cetaphil. I then pat my skin dry, wait a few minutes, then apply the differin very sparingly to my cheeks, forehead, nose, jaw, and top part of my neck. i can't put the differin on my chin b/c for some reason it gets super dry, so now i just skip it most days. my point in telling you all this is that being more gentle with my skin, using the right wash only ONCE a day, applying the gel only to specific areas and most importantly, refraining from picking at my face, has made a huge difference in the effectiveness of a product i've used for years. the differin really will make the zits go away if you can deal with your skin being a little zitty, flakey, and red for a week or two. Not trying to pop everything that looks popable allows the differin to draw out the impurities and dry up the top layer of skin...today i peeled off two little disks of dry skin that had been been zits and all that was underneath was a slightly red mark that i can totally deal with instead of the bleeding hole in my face that i used to produce by squeezing....i also apply a light oilfree moisturizer (also by DDF) in the moring IF i need it... really, be nicer to your skin and only use what you have to and you might be suprised...i wish i hadn't been attacking my face for the last million years....may skin may have looked like it does now forever ago.... alot of it has to do with self control and knowing that you can't make it better overnite.....keep truckin everybody....and good luck

I'm a 29-year old male who's suffered some sort of Acne for at least the last 10 yrs. I've normally managed to control it to a certain extent using some some of benzoyl-based product, e.g. Panoxyl. About 2 yrs ago, it got worse. I work for a large Corporate. The last thing you wanna worry about is being conscious of whether people are concentrating on you or the spots. There were days where I would call sick into work to avoid meeting clients. Enough was enough.
Doctor initially put me on Duac gel. This worked quite well for a year. I know picking spots is something u get used to. It becomes a vicious cycle.
About 6 months ago, it got worse ... much worse. I have to say, I've only recently put this down to the type of products I was using on my face. Oil-based moisturisers is an absolute no-no. I was applying this after shaving. It was only after coming onto websites like this that I become all the wiser. With the harsh winter we're having here in the UK, I couldn't help but use a strong moisturiser - what a mistake !
Anyway - I went to see the doc again. This time he prescribed Differin. He did say things would get worse before it got better. WOW - he wasn't kidding. For the first week I didn't even want to step outside, let alone work, shopping ...etc. Very depressing. Luckily I had the support of my wife.
Anyway after about 1 months usage - MY FACE IS CLEAR. I think I started to see improvement in early week 3. However, I also STOPPED PICKING SPOTS about a week ago and I think this has had the most profound effect. My advice is that to really make a difference YOU MUST STOP PICKING SPOTS. Admittedly, I do now get the occasional whitehead and I do 'remove the white stuff' before heading out. Picking spots not only leads to scars it just makes it more difficult for Differin to work because you're pushing all the nasty stuff deeper.
Also PLEASE use a oil-free moisturiser and a gentle cleanser - the advise that others have already given on this fantastic website. I must admit - I used to eagerly read thru these reviews during those dark, depressing days.
I've also found that to wait 20 mins after washing your face at night before applying has maximum affect. I've also tried to change my eating habits around. I've cut out chocolate and all things sugary and I'm trying to eat more veggies/salads. Optimum word is trying but I don't know if this has also helped in making a difference.

My acne was always mild/sometimes moderate but never too bad. But at the beginning of fall my skin just broke out like crazy; breakouts were more frequent and severe. I went on the Clear Skin Regimen but after three months and no luck (I did everything right and never skipped a treatment) I made a dermatologist appt. and she gave me Differin. I've been on it less than a week and my skin looks a lot better than it has for the past few years (and its much less time consuming than the regimen). I'm nearly clear and have only had two small whiteheads the past week, compared to sometimes waking up with nearly 15 everyday. This is working great for me. A little dryness but nothing too bad. Overall, I'm very glad I'm on it.

For a long time I had very bad acne on my chin and would get huge horrible white heads and red marks. I started ising Differin & ERYTHROMYCIN which is a topical solution about a month and a half ago.
The first month my ance got worse. Yet, now a few months later I don't get even close to as bad acne. People have noticed and i have compared though pictures. IT DOES TAKE TIME. the long run results will pay off.
ALSO: my friend had horrible ance worse than I did and started drinking 8 glasses of water a day and no soda. HE HAS NO ACNE NOW. try this also!!
good luck
