I've been using Differin for 2 months now and I satisfied with it. Had no side effects, but i've been using a slow approach to it; my dermatologist suggested that i start with just 2 applications per week for 2 weeks and slowly add 1 application every 2 weeks. I'm using it at night. No peeling, itching or scaling and acne that appeared lasted only 2-3 days and then disappeared and there were no flare-ups.I'm using the gel formulation and it's great-it's fast drying and non-greasy. Cream tends to be greasier because it's made for sensitive skin.
During the day i'm using SPF 30 moisturizer-can't be too careful!
I was also using azelaic acid and it worked fine too-smoothed out skin and cleared it. But Differin is also good for my post acne scars.

I'm not very sure about differin. I have had it before, and it was after my experience with Retin A Micro, which got rid of my moderate acne as well as a layer of epithelial layer of skin. I was so red and my face was peeling so badly that you could have easily mistaken me for a stop light. The first time, differin helped to keep acne away after I got rid of it.

This time though, I'm not very sure. I've been on it for a month. I do know that it worsens the acne for the first three weeks. But what's strange is that it would appear to be getting better only to wake up the next day and the acne come back full blown. Also it's making my forehead (where I apply differin since that's where my acne is the most severe) very oily and shiny even after washing my face lightly in the morning from the night before's application. It itches too. I also got the cream instead of the gel and am wondering if that's why I'm having the negative effects.

I use this along with Duac! It's great! Two weeks so far and clear up all fast! Get it along with Differin! Read my ratings for Duac! and you'll know a lot of info! What funny people complain its a 100 bucks or more i only paid 5 dollars for each cream just too 10 bucks in all! Cause of my insurance If you dont have its expensive! But ask your doctor about it!

Struggling again from NY

O.K... I didnt think I would be back on this site again but here I am with another dilemma. I had been using Differin for about 4 months and although it started out a little shaky, everything turned out O.K.... Now that I need a refill on my perscription my insurance claims they wont pay for it.. I have tried to get other people to visit their dermatologist and give me their perscriptions but with no luck.. for some reason Insurance companies are reluctant to pay for the product if the person is over 25... since when.. Now I have to suffer with this debilitating problem or risk ordering it over the net from some company in Austria that might not even be the real thing..... Any suggestions...

I have been using this for about approx. 6 months now in conjunction with Doxycycline and it has done wonders for me. It has dramatically improved my severe acne and still continues to do so. For people it hasn't worked for, it's because everyone reacts to different medicines in a different way. Dan said that Benzoyl Peroxide really worked for him, but for me it made my acne more worse and aggrevated. A number of other factors contributed to my acne that I noticed such as chocolate made my whole face erupt with cysts and took over a month to settle and stress which took over a month to settle also. Overall differn has improved my acne and continues to do so.

I had acne until 5 years ago when I treated it with Roaccutan and it completely disappeared. Now, the acne is back again and my dermatologist gave me Differin 0.1% gel...however I'm now in the 7th week of treatment and I'm totally unhappy...the skin is extremely dry, pimples still appear and generally my skin is a bit red. I've lost again all my self-confidence and I think I'm sometimes on the verge of doing something stupid because of this never-ending horror...

I used this product faithfully for 10 weeks, and my face never looked worse! My skin felt like sandpaper, and I had more, bigger pimples than I've ever had. I didn't even want to leave my house - my face was a horrible mess - numerous huge pimples, and my face was too dry to wear makeup/cover-up. It also made my already oily skin feel greasy ALL THE TIME. I think I should have been using some kind of antibiotic simultaneously. I began a new Duac/Proactiv/Cetaphil regimen, and my face immediately stopped breaking out. After two weeks, the Differin damage has pretty much been reversed.

This really worked for me. I had mild to moderate acne. Derm put me on this and minocycline. Told me to use Cetaphil and SPF 15+ moisturizer.Yes, it took like 6 weeks but whats 6 weeks out of your life? It says right on the label that it will bring new pimples to the surface. Yes, there was some dryness but thats why they make moisturizer. The only weird thing I had happen was that it seems to make my eyebrows kinda greasy (just the eyebrows, rest of face is ok). My face feels so smooth and looks good now- best thing I ever did!

I've been using differen for 3 1/2 weeks. When I first started using it, my acne got way worse, and it hasn't even got back to the point where it was yet. Also, I've got a rash all around my neck. Everyone says you have to give it time, but I've also heard that it never really works 100%. I'm kind of dissapointed. My insurance makes it kind of affordable though.

In my experience Differin was just fuel for the fire. It caused more severe breakouts wherever I used it, and I distinctly remember popping pimples that it made that had nothing but Differin gel inside! This stuff is horrible; I'm surprised they're still allowed to sell it.
